Absolutely. Really enjoyed my "away day" with Barnsley there too. I'm walking distance from where AFC play and I'd hoped to get to a game or two this winter as I'm probably going to be in England for a change but it's looking unlikely now.
Wigan fans seem to be getting hyped up by this article - giving a president for them not being given 12 points. https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/...point-deduction-985967?itm_source=parsely-api
Had a look at their forum and the majority seem very convinced that they're going to get off. Which I find remarkable, but also a tad worrying.
Paul Cook has seemingly been interviewed by Bristol City. Let the capitulation begin. 24th next season, whatever division they're in.
Yeah same, was slightly surreal, especially as one of their subs that day was in my class at school! My next door neighbour was a season ticket holder at AFC season just gone and I'd always said I'd have to go along with him sometime, guess time will tell as to when that may be
On their forum right now, just seen this, probably - "Had a look at their forum and the majority seem very convinced that they're going to stay up. Which I find remarkable, but also a tad worrying."
With great respect, and with a few exceptions, it is probably wise to discount anything stated on social media regarding this. The burden here is with Wigan and their representatives to show that the EFL have applied their own rules and procedures incorrectly. The panel will have to explicitly state their reasons if they decide to find in Wigan’s favour (particularly given the potential repercussions). It will be totally unemotional, and if there are factors we are unaware of, then we would have to concede that the circumstances were not as straightforward as we had all assumed. It certainly will not be decided by appeals to ‘natural justice’ or petitions cooked up by understandably upset Wigan supporters. The law is sometimes an ass but it has to be adhered to nevertheless.
i'd be flabbergasted if they won, but then again anything involving the efl? 1 thing that wouldn't sit right if they did would be the 25p in the pound to other debts owed, surely any reprieve must include a full repayment of debts, after all, they'll be £6m+ better off due to league difference they are bleating on about the demise of the mighty wigan, getting reporters & mp's on board but at the end of the day it could be to the demise of us who have played by the rules, nothing as been said about those who could go bust due to monies owed to them, no idea how much it is, it could be very little, this could prove to be a dangerous precedent set by this independent body should they overturn it
It’s hilarious, they seem to think because Blackpool didn’t get a points deduction for going into receivership / not administration in 2019, different scenario, it was to force the Oyston family to sell to pay debt due to the Latvian Banker, Valeri Belokon. The banker sued the Oyston’s not the club, the club was effectively repossessed from them. Wigan’s scenario, their new owner placed them into administration! Players deferred wages and a bucket collection was organised by their fans to enable them to finish the season as the money had run out and the owner wasn’t going to fund them..
If the decisions not made on the 31st it will be obvious that the EFL have some case to answer and that’s when it’ll start getting nervy
they reckon it won't be announced until next week, even though it's known to them, honestly can't write this stuff, a farce!
A local journalist in Wigan is quoting their QC as saying they have a strong case, so that will be giving them confidence. Whether that is rightly or wrongly, we'll find out erm... at some point before 12th September hopefully!
But their QC will have to present the case in an objective way. If they believe the EFL have done something in error in terms of interpreting their rules, and this is believed to be of sufficient gravity to overturn the penalty, then they will have to clearly state why. It will be open to scrutiny. It will definitely not be an emotional decision. Money matters are just about as unemotional as it gets. If they have a case, then so be it. But having a case and getting a favourable decision are two completely different matters.
Agree. Was just pointing out one factor that would be giving the Wigan fans confidence in their appeal. I'm in no way qualified to comment on how well founded that confidence is.
Was always gonna be hard time from Wigan fans for whichever club finished third bottom . Wished we could have finished further up and let Brum fans finished there . They would have sorted em .
‘Assisting the faulty system to bury their club‘ They’re doing/ done a good enough job themselves without us having to intervene
