You’re right he didn’t and we probably should all be thankful for that. The reason why I raised PC is because he did subsidise us and no one was objecting then. It’s the same position Wigan find themselves in, just on a different scale.
Wigan is a rugby league town. I’ve seen many of their fans denounce this on social media, but it’s a fact. Same goes for Hull to a certain extent, but to be fair to Hull they’ve managed to spend a chunk of their history in the 2nd tier against the odds. Barnsley as a club are surrounded by bigger city clubs. We attract fans from them when we do well and vice versa.
I feel sorry for the genuine fans, the ones who have been going for years and were there before the PL years. As we know all too well fans have very little influence in the boardroom and I would be pretty sure that a lot of Wigan fans would have had grave concerns about their level of spending.
It happened to Leeds under Ridsdale. Fans just want the best for their team and don't questions things as much when their team is winning.
i thought Houghton was nailed in for Bristol But i also heard he might be in the running at Watford so the city job may be open. i actually do feel sorry for Wigan fans. Apart from the recent panic at blaming everyone for their plight i dont see what they could have done to stop this happening.
if IRRC the reason he stopped funding it was due to his impending court case - he thought there was a good chance he he might finish the season enjoying Her Majesties hospitality and so planned to make the club self sufficient. In any case I dont think Cryne ever funded the club the way that for example Wheelan did for Wigan - he helped buy certain players but it was never stacking up the sort of unsustainable debt that many clubs do.
I believe he recovered a substantial chunk of his funds from player sales towards the end of his tenure. His also put a lot of his money into the academy. I may be wrong about this but wouldn’t the Cryne family get the outstanding balance of his investment back if we ever made into the premiership?
My first thought was ...The appeal is gonna fail and he knos it...like most supporters my first thought was for my club...suppose wigan fans were the same when they blamed us and everything else for the sh*te their in now.
Blackburn fans don’t like him at all , https://www.brfcs.com/mb/index.php?/forums/topic/34529-wigan-administration/&page=2

I dont think the appeal is relevant for him there is a fire sale going on and even if the appeal succedes he will lose the better players, and if they start next season which is by no means certain - they need a buyer for sure and a buyer is likely to want their own manager in place - cant see why he would even think of staying
Going while his stock is high. They will struggle to cope with so many players leaving whatever division they are in. Doesn't fancy going down with the ship and why should he - good track record and will do well for Brizzle.
Spot on, I acknowledge that we are limited locally as to the support we can attract, but there are still plenty out there who consider Barnsley FC to be their team, who for whatever reason/s have stayed away in recent times and further back.
Odd time I've gone into Barnsley on a Saturday afternoon and not gone to match for whatever reason. You'd be surprised at number of people in Courthouse and Shakespeare that watch Soccer Saturday and are supporting Barnsley.
When I’ve gone into my local, a few have said to me things, like how have we played today, or did we deserve the result then, always saying we.
