That's the problem with being a club that just goes about it's business and stays out of the limelight. Nobody backs you up because no one has even got an opinion about you.

People like a cause to get behind and that's where this media lovin' for Wigan stems from. I'm sure if we are relegated nobody will give a stuff because we haven't had eight seasons in the Premier League and a recent F.A Cup win.

Wigan are fresh in peoples minds where as we have spent that long priding ourselves on being anonymous that no one gives a ****.

How is it factually correct? We've brought zero legal proceedings against Wigan Athletic.

The charge isn't from Barnsley FC. We just happen to be the team that finished 4th bottom.

That's entirely the purpose of the due diligence process, and the onus is on the purchasing party to satisfy itself in this regard. It can be a very extensive process, with the buying party having access to all sorts of confidential information, having signed a non-disclosure agreement first, and the ability to ask any questions it sees fit.

The first sentence about us going to court! The rest of it of course is pure garbage!

What will be will be. It might be a defining moment for a lot of Barnsley fans. I know my uncle never watched a Rugby League match ever again after Don Fox missed that conversion underneath the posts in the 1968 Challenge Cup Final vs Leeds.

It was exactly the same when Portsmouth went down. We were also made out to be the bad guys then as well

From what I can gather, it looks like their defence is that the club were victims of allegedly fraudulent activity, and that the takeover should never have been allowed. They've clearly given the panel plenty to think about.

That said, if our owners were dodgy, and put us in the hands of someone even dodgier, who puts us straight into administration. I'd reserve my anger at the owners, rather than the EFL or Barnsley.[/QUOTE]

Why do Wigan fans think that this is the responsibility of the EFL? Surely THE people responsible for checking whether the takeover is legitimate, are the members of WAFC Board? I realise there is the "Fit and Proper" check, but alot of Wigan fans seem to be blaming the EFL test for the lack of due diligence by the people at WAFC?
Like you, I'd be directing my anger at the former owners, the Board, and the new owners.

Im a bit nervous as these things can throw up funny rulings, but to be honest if you were betting on the outcome (hahah!) I suspect you wouldnt lay much money on it succeeding.

Ignore Twitter, it's not representitive of what most fans think, it's just a bit of an echo chamber around those select Wigan posts. Most fans would think removing the 12 points is stupid.

If it was down to fans coming through the turnstiles I think most clubs would rather have us rocking up than 50 or so from Wigan.

Nah, not me. We knew how uneven a playing field the Championship was, and despite a few chinks of light at various points, we didn't have enough to avoid the drop. Goes without saying I'd absolutely love us to stay up, but given that many of us were resigned to relegation early doors. I really can't find the effort to get overly upset about it. The fight against Wendy, Derby, Wigan, Birmingham, Reading and no doubt a host of other clubs for blatantly bending the EFL's rules might have to be one we save for another day. I can look with confidence towards at least one of those clubs mentioned and say if they continue on their current course, they simply won't exist within the next 3-4 years. I trust, at that point, that our prudence will reap its deserved rewards.

Agreed. If it was anyone other than us involved, I'd be thinking along the lines that I'd be absolutely astounded if Wigan's appeal were to succeed.
