FFS some of the stuff in this thread is bonkers. This sh1z has gone off for years. No rules broken, and nothing to do with FFP.
Call me a pessimist but all I’ve seen evidence of so far is strengthening the squad of the other team on the cheap. The fact the fee isn’t mentioned for McGeehan implies there wasn’t one. We might even still be funding some of his wages (like Leeds did Robbie Fowler when he went to city). Sibbick, as I asked before, are Oostende paying all of his wages? Even if so, did we get a loan fee? I’m hoping there is a benefit to Barnsley and that we are the top dog in this operation. But I’m yet to be convinced.
Mental int it. What’s FFP got to do with owt? We’re never gunna be anywhere near a £39m loss over 3 years with these owners. Feeder club? It’s the opposite, we’re getting lads who can’t get a game off the wage bill.
If we'd loaned Sibbick to Wimbledon, and sold McGeehan to Portsmouth, with no fee mentioned, would you still ask the same question? No, I'd assume.
If we weren’t the top dog it would be Woodrow and Mowatt getting on the ferry not two lads who we got rid of on loan last year. There’s being pessimistic then there’s stupidity.
I admire your honesty but im personally prepared to eat a bit of humble pie because over the full 46 games you could argue it's been a decent season and the upturn under Struber gives encouragement going forward. When have we ever not been a selling club? These owners have bought us to make money for themselves and nothing else. The long term dream hopefully is that they make their money by getting us into the premier League.
We get a big earner off the books & they presumably get a good player for that standard on decent wages but they’ve not had to pay a fee. As long as neither clubs are racking up debts or breaking rules I don’t have an issue with it.
No. Because one of our owners doesn’t own Wimbledon or Portsmouth; and I’d have no reason to wonder if we’d let a player go to those clubs whilst still paying some of their wages
Players leaving on a free to get them off the wage bill has gone on for years, it’s nothing new and will co ti is to happen
Mgheehan was playing in a league lower & Ritzmaier was with us playing in the great escape , I will back Struber , he got it right
Why not? It happens. I'd be surprised if Portsmouth were paying all of McGeehan's wages last season, and no doubt we've had players we've paid up, in the past, so they can move elsewhere.
Ffs have a word. I’m stupid for questioning whether Mr Lee’s intentions are definitely for the betterment of one investment over another? Does it not occur that he might possibly see a quicker and easier profit out of the Belgian club than the English one? I’ve not at any point suggested they are going to send our best players there, or that they are a bigger club currently per se. My point is that I’m more pessimistic than most on here as to the intentions of the ownership regime in this. We don’t know at all do we? We are the bigger club in terms of fan base and turnover, and were presumably a bigger initial investment. But that doesn’t mean they will use the relationship to benefit Barnsley Football Club. We might be the big fish used to supplement the little one at no cost to the owner. You would hope we would be the priority - and that this is all designed to help Barnsley Football Club. They may be doing so and I sincerely hope that you are right - but all we have evidence of so far is them signing two players from us, and it would appear cheaply. I’m not prepared to conclude it’s all rosey for Barnsley based only on what has occurred so far. If Oostende sign some out of contract English youngsters for free and they end up coming to us, circumnavigating the rules on us paying for them, as the likes of Leicester etc have done, I’ll believe it. Though I’m not sure I’d be a fan of that approach!
Maybe so. I agree it's unlikely, but it's the principle that I don't like. That's why I was comparing it to Leicester using Leuven to buy Hirst (can't remember exactly why they couldn't, something to do with his registration maybe?). It's a foreign club owned by the same people being used to get around rules that are inconvenient, and if other clubs did it we'd rightly be upset.
Leicester used Leuven to sign George Hirst on a free transfer. If they'd signed him, they would have owed the massive Sheffield club compensation. It's very different.
McGeehan was atrocious at the beginning of this season. Could not pass go at Monopoly, the useless albino twit.
