According to Facebook - the voucher can only be spent in the town centre.
    Is this right ?

In the market or at market kitchen.

Don’t think the bit about Hoyland et al is true

Yes but you must cross the bridge of certain death to get it validated.

Apparently it is all those market traders too. In the small print.

Don’t think it’s a bad idea personally. Got a family member with some and it’s convinced them to go to the market for the first time since the new stuff opened.

I think it's a great misuse of money.

Council workers (not sure if it's all) were very fortunate during this pandemic in that they weren't furloughed. They got 100% pay while others were forced, by law and by their employers, to take a 20% pay cut if they were lucky. If they were unlucky they got universal credit.

£65k is a lot of money for a council who have said they have huge financial problems. If they've managed to find that money then surely it should go to those hit hardest by this pandemic, not those fortunate enough to have a contract that guaranteed them full pay throughout it. We have people living off food banks in barnsley. The amount of people who have had to use them recently has spiked as as those going hungry and yet the council found money to give to the fortunate who have been allowed to continue earning their full wage? At barnsley council we have team leaders earning £50,000 a year and they've just been handed £20 to spend on food. Meanwhile the poor sod who worked for a private company and was let go in march gets universal credit.

It's a lovely idea but so completely misdirected it's almost unbelievable.

People need to realise that if you were ALLOWED to work during the pandemic you aren't the unfortunate one, you are the lucky one.

The money has essentially gone to the market traders who were hit hard. £20 worth of goods have gone to the employees yes, but the economic injection is into the market.

Yep, reality is all the council staff get is some free stuff, the actual cash goes to the traders. Some might n8t benefit at all some might benefit greatly dependant on what they sell.

Personally I think it’s better than giving free cash to people.

    It’s DUFF information.
Many on Facebook saying the voucher is only applicable to the town centre - and no other places in the district.

In the early days of lockdown I didn’t consider myself to be lucky or anything else. Indeed, I was going out to work mixing with others instead of being more selective and only doing essential shopping trips. I came home from work to queue outside of shops and supermarkets who had barely anything left on their shelves. I felt myself getting annoyed when in lunchtime I joined queues with people who had decided to do lunchtime shopping in Tarn when they were able to go at other times of the day. People walked to work due to being little or no public transport luck b’stards eh. Why should this should turn into Public sector v private sector. Then again, having worked in the public sector I ought to know better that’s how attacks start.
Great misuse of money my arse, start looking at how private contracts are given out to companies who have failed miserably in the past, that’s a great misuse of public money

It is but imo it's via the wrong means. If those hit hardest had been given £20 to spend in the market it would have benefited the market traders and the financially hit

The wording is apparently Barnsley Market.

Supposedly those outer village markets come under the same umbrella.

I agree. However from what I’ve been told my a family member, the voucher has the council employee number on, meaning they can’t be copied etc. without there being easy disciplinary action to follow. It’s the easy way to get money into the market

I’m not a council employee - but it’s important to know what’s happening here.
    For other reasons.

So what is it, are you against it per se, or just because they can only be spent in the Market or both?

It’s just something I’ve been pushing with planning and the local MP.
It relates to the state of some of the town centres in the district.

The officials that save the asylum seekers (not illegals you can't be an illegal person it's unlawful.)do actually want them to be safe.
Walk in another man's shoes and see a few dead kids and it changes your outlook on life.

Lots didn’t really have a choice. If they were green or amber workers. The company I work for ( key ) totally misjudged the amount of workers That actually have worked throughout the pandemic. Overestimating how many would be off work.
Requesting people take 2 weeks holidays. By September. Then if quarantined use holidays. Or unpaid leave. That’s the reward as to date.

Some other Company employees that have been furloughed ( lots topped up to 100%) . Will not lose any of their holiday entitlement.

I’m blessed in the fact I still have a job to go to.
So there are pros n cons wherever you look.
For some I fear nothing but cons.
Good luck to all those in difficult circumstances.

As for council workers. It was stated at the time lots of staff instead of being furloughed would be trained up eg to collect refuse.

£20 in the scheme of things (£64k) is not the earth. Most folk in private companies get Xmas bonuses. It comes from profits generally but is paid for indirectly by the public.
