North West Motorway Police cracking down. First time I’ve heard of a fine for it. They should revoke their license. Same with truck drivers that use anything but the left hand lane.
If you forced all HGVS into just the first lane it would cause chaos at busy times. Joining and exiting the motorway would be a nightmare.
You obviously know **** all about driving a 44ton truck! There’s 3 lanes, if a trucks in the middle lane, pull into lane 3, simples!!!!
It was tongue in cheek. I just get pissed off when it takes a truck 20 miles to overtake another at 55 MPH.
This thread neatly sums up the British attitude to driving "I'm right and everybody else should get out of my way". One reason why many drivers stick in the middle lane is because when you actually stick to the speed limit, and you pull into the left hand lane, then you approach a slower vehicle, sometimes the impatient ***** in the outer 2 lanes won't let you out to overtake.
It gets to me when a driver coasts along in the middle lane , both the the middle lane & the outer lane are overtaking lanes , once you have overtaken & it is clear in front, you should move over to the inner lane .
Another reason is because countless people don't know how to drive on a motorway and think it's acceptable to sit in the middle lane or lane 3 (if 4 or more lanes) even when there is literally no traffic around them or ahead of them I have to go via the m1 for 100 miles or so to every home game and this happens all the time. Drives me mad
This is something that fundamentally I don't think a lot of people seem to care about or are even aware of. Infuriating
One of the most calming things about moving to Ireland is the traffic. It used to get me seriously wound up in the UK. You can't start a journey without planning in at least an hour extra for traffic jams. Over here, other than about a ten mile radius around Dublin, I literally never have a problem. The motorways are virtually empty. We live about 30 minutes from Tralee and 25 from Dingle and I can drive into the centre of either without coming across a single traffic light. Sorry if it sounds like I'm crowing and they're two completely different countries but it's an indication of how bad road conditions in the UK are.
We have a slip road off a dual carriageway near where I live. Left lane to go either 1st left to the service station or 2nd left towards Peterborough. Right lane for straight on or towards Northampton. Usually in the morning, the left hand lane has queuing traffic. Almost without fail someone will bomb down the right hand lane, avoid queuing and cut up all the other cars and turn left. Seen so many near misses its unreal That's one of my major pet hates
They always say they’re cracking down on something it’s all rubbish lol I drive 100k miles a year and will often drive all way to London and not see one marked police car lol
IMO as a former HGV driver, driving standards slipped when instructors began to teach pupils how to pass the test, as opposed to teaching them how to drive. In 1972 when I passed my test, my instructor said something that I never forgot, “Congratulations, you’ve passed your test, now ****off and learn how to drive!”
With so many people working from home either full or part time during covid surely to god something now has to be done about making it more the norm and making a serious effort to get traffic off the roads and carbon out of the air.
Dodworth road from M1 exit to lights at Broadway..very common now...even saw a guy last week pull into centre lane to turn right then go straight down cutting up the car in the correct forward lane..cameras needed...
