https://m.skybet.com/football/sky-bet-championship/event/26230270 There are 9 teams there with shorter odds for the drop than us. Not that I'd ever bet on such a thing, I just can't quite get used to not automatically being everyone's relegation favourites and in fact being expected to finish above a fair few other clubs. It's been a while.
And that's with us starting off the season in second place, not our usual first, due to AFC Bournemouth.
Well if the off field antics do not derail us then I think we could do some damage this season, we have a good young talented squad & a little tweeking we'll be fine. Good manager, good squad with Championship experience.
Yeah, they're 7/1 elsewhere so I'm not sure why they're so short with Skybet. Best prices from Oddschecker still have the other 8 shorter than us though.
Worrying - always feel more comfortable when we are favourites Most of those below us make sense though - except I don't understand the Bristol one Bit surprised Coventry have better odds than us
My thoughts exactly, BUT - the recruitment in these next few weeks will determine where we are by the end of the season. Get it right - and we could easily be knocking on the door of the playoffs.
Personally reckon we'll tow again. We were absolute dog$hite for the majority of the season last year. As miraculous as it was, I personally think we stayed up more due to a points deduction that came out of nowhere, and a level playing field that we benefited from due to teams losing 'home advantage'. We'll have even less money than we did last year, we haven't added to the squad, and we have this clusterf.cuk litigation situation hitting us. Luckily we have a 12 point cushion on at least 1, maybe two, teams, which ultimately I reckon might just get us out of jail again.
I’m optimistic, but also kind of agree. Under Flitcroft we pulled off the escape, and the mistake then, was thinking the squad would push on to fight the season after. It didn’t. We need to be ruthless with incomings and outgoings to ensure we can build on last season with quality and graft. Not just graft alone......
I'm a bit more optimistic. I reckon we're two or three good signings away from doing really well in this division. We've ended up with a squad with Championship experience more through luck than judgement, but we've got it all the same. We really do need to make those signings though, and they need to perform once they're here. As Dub-Tyke says, the Flitcroft "season after" is instructive. You can't play like that for a whole term. But I think we've got a lot more about us tactically now than we did then, and a much better skeleton of a first team.
When you consider the form since Struber came in, the fact we have a growing young squad, and the fact there is a more even balance in the league next season I think I agree with the odds
Probably all on the basis they expect these teams to face charges that lead to points deductions given the SWFC ruling and Wigans administration.
We get bullied, that’s my worry. Dont think we’ll go down, but without some good additions we may be clinging on again. Still at least it keeps life interesting
