Is it? Because whenever anyone said leave jeans leave people actually had an argument against it. Whenever I mention our hypocrisy in allowing thousands to die every year I am met with a wall of silence. Donny red for example as outright said 'i refuse to accept this' and stuck his fingers in his ears.

If someone can actually have the ******** to come out and give a genuine response to how they justify watching thousands die every year from a contagious virus without making any sacrifices to save those lives then I'm happy to hear it.

It's just as dangerous to the people it kills is it not?
In the last 3 weeks of data, there are 4 x as many flu/respiratory deaths as there are Covid deaths

Masks and social distancing do not seem to be slowing down the flu. Covid deaths are slowing down fast. I hold my hands up that i don't know why that is the case but I feel it should be reported.

People have on several occasions explained the score so you either choose to ignore it or have not read them. The flu virus which people constantly compare it to has a vaccine. This does not and despite numerous restrictions imposed it continued to kill people in high numbers at its peak. Once you have a vaccine then realistically there is little more you can do.

I'm not getting any further into these tedious groundhog day discussions as it is the same arguments every time with the same silly, emotive responses like you've used about "how many dead are you willing to see in the ground" etc etc.

It isn't good for anyone just like the billion brexit threads weren't. It achieves nothing whatsoever. We get your standpoints, we don't need to re-read it every day.

Because and I’ve already gone through this with you a multitude of times.

Flu kills approx 15000 per year, with no lockdown, no social distancing, no extra hygiene directives, no masks.

Covid has already killed over 60k Brits in 6 months whilst all those directives are in place.

Without them, we’d be touching Quarter to a half a million deaths. Flu would never kill that many, so not comparable.

How many nurses die of flu contracted from patients they are treating, answer... none. It’s just not as contagious or as dangerous. That’s not to say it isn’t a terrible disease.

How many people end up with life changing issues after having Flu? None.

What you have touched on in that is something I think some people are realising. We have a vaccine for flu, and it still kills thousands every year. I get the impression some are thinking a vaccine will end all Covid deaths. Hopefully by the time we get a vaccine deaths will still be so low its almost irrelevant.

So again you're not talking about trying to save any of the thousands who die from flu. We just shrug our shoulders at those.

That is pure speculation not a fact. The truth is we don't know for certain the level of impact the social distancing measures have had. And countries with no or much lesser restrictions haven't seen numbers that translate to those.
The bigger scandal is our inability to protect the vulnerable such as the disaster that happened in care homes.

Vaccine or not do you believe that a winter lockdown would see thousands of people still alive who we just accept as regular deaths each year? That's my point.
I'm not arguing that covid-19 isn't serious or anything like that. I'm saying that if we accept that lockdown saves lives from contagious diseases then isn't it the moral thing to do to do similar each winter to save those lives?

    Eh?

Are you suggesting we should try to reduce all deaths to zero?

Flu deaths are under control. They are never going to potentially kill millions of people around the globe. Flu isn’t a pandemic. It’s an horrific disease. But it’s not COVID.

It’s killed a minimum of 800k people already with all the measures in place.

If left unchecked it would wreak havoc on populations around the world.

    This conversation is absolute madness.

Ok, it’s an estimate but it won’t be far wrong.

Do you not think lockdowns and the measures have reduced the outbreak in the U.K at all?

We do try to reduce all deaths to zero don't we? Isn't that why we have hospitals?

I refer you to my middle paragraph earlier and what Terry has said above. I'm not getting any further into it as it is totally pointless. I've said what I wanted to say. Enjoy your weekend :)

Yes, it stopped the NHS being overwhelmed by slowing the spread which stopped people dying who otherwise could have been saved.
Beyond that I'm hopeful it could be a double positive as we wre now seeing positive tests but next to no deaths.
So if the Virus has weakened or more people are naturally resistant to the infection than we originally I thought is unclear.
But that's all the measures were originally designed to do, slow the speed and save lives by not letting the NHS be overwhelmed. Beyond that you can't really do much, as you rightly say with Flu deaths, it's about keeping it under control.

    Again you’re being silly.

We attempt to save as many lives as possible, but we have to prioritise. We know that some are going to die. Some are allowed to die because even patients are prioritised based on their likelihood of survival.

    Anyway, I’m off.

This going round in circles, comparing 2 diseases that aren’t comparable in terms of mortality rates for the umpteenth time.

The same 3 people and the same people responding is becoming tedious as fcukk.

Quite right. It’s very clear from this graph that the R rate is rising rapidly and we need a full on lockdown.

Inagine being the sort of person that would dob in a kids party in a garden next door by the way.

We prioritise but we try to save every life where possible. To claim we don't is ******* madness.

    Good day sir

So what do we think will happen when it gets cold in November and everyone is indoors ? There’s a reason the hospitals are fearing the worst and preparing for a bleak Christmas…
This isn’t 100% factual sort of heard from a friend of a friend who’s wife works in Donny hospital I’d say it’s totally plausible
