I wonder how much it would cost and how long it would take to do an entire cemetery.

Islington Cemetery where Rev Preedy is buried is actually in Finchley - It's an enormous cemetery and anyone planning a visit should make sure they go during office hours when the Cemetery staff can direct them to the right place.

 

I was curious about how big you meant so I had look and to put it into context how big it is you could fit the entire town centre and harborough hill, the retail park, Asda and Wickes into it...

 

I went a couple of years back, and just couldn't find the grave, everything was very overgrown.

Will try again and ask the staff as you suggest.

I went a few years ago and phoned the Cemetery staff in advance to ask if someone could direct me to the grave - when I got there there was a car and driver waiting for me and I was driven to the grave - I think they thought I was someone official from Barnsley F C !!!
Never in a million years would I have found it without their help.

 

You wouldn't happen to know the plot number or anything would you?

 

Actually forget that, for anyone interested I think I managed to find it by following the YouTube video put up by the club a few years ago.

You can use that to then navigate to the grave which is on Allen's path just off the junction of Kew road and withington road

 

It's not an exaggeration, the cemetery is absolutely massive. It goes on forever. I've been down with Neil and Gaz before and the graft they've put into it each year is nothing short of superb. All along that area, it's just derelict, unkempt grave after unkempt grave. Some are hundreds of years old by the looks of it. And it is rather sad to see them in that state, but I suppose if they've no relatives alive etc, it's going to happen.

It's some sight though, once you find it. A little walk up Allen's Path and you spot it, glistening, due to its yearly upkeep. I'm not a religious bloke per se, but I do find it incredibly moving standing there, next to the bloke who founded the club we love. The club I work for. It's rather emotional.

I'd urge anyone who can, to take a trip down. You'll understand why once you're there.

no, don't have plot number - the cemetery is huge overgrown trees/bushes etc and the graves are not in a straight line. Even if you had the plot number (if there is one) I don't think it would be much help in finding the Rev's grave.
The Cemetery phone number is 020 7527 8300 - if you go to visit you need to check that there is someone available to direct you.

134 years next week (6th September) since Reverend Preedy founded the club. An unbelievable 24 years since a fan called John Mills re-located his grave and had it first cleared. Thanks again to those who maintain it now.

Slightly off topic, but the inscription on her grave is beautiful,

“Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumnal rain. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.”
