I’ve heard he’s on reduced wages due to being signed as a u23 development player when he got him from Leeds. He now wants to be on better wages in line with the other lads in the first team. Perhaps it’s his agent doing some fishing to get the lad better terms Personally I think we’d be foolish to let him go now as we’ve a right player on our hands
I wouldn't disagree with you historically about selling. I also agree with you about current pressures. However I still think Barnsley are/is in a better position than many other clubs and the pressure to sell (relative to other clubs) is probably not as great as you're alluding to. There are other players to sell who have less long term potential in my opinion. I basically agree with YN on this. Keep him a bit longer and hold nerve and he will be worth a lot more than whatever is being potentially offered now. He'll also be in a better/stronger team in my opinion if the owners wait and that too will push his value up. Don't sell.
Was trying to work out where Hecky would have seen him, forgot he was at Leeds for a couple of months(or something like that), lol
https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/sheffield-united-new-signings-transfers-18863729 They want five players and have bids in but don't expect a signing this week. Guess we will soon find out if Clarke is one of them. No mention of the positions they are looking to strengthen.
Put him on the wages he deserves. Clarke has almost got everything and is still young and improving. He is athletic, technically excellent and clearly has an intelligent footballing brain; also very level-headed. I really am looking forward to seeing him progress to the top level. If Blunts were to offer £5 million, I guess that would be an offer neither us, nor Clarke could refuse, but is that likely and how much would we actually get, bearing in mind the rumour that Leeds have a hefty sell-on clause. We did well to steal Clarke from Leeds. Infinitely better than the Pearce guy we were supposedly after and who went to Wigan. Pay him properly and keep him, unless we get offered silly money and Blunts pay Leeds' share.
I believe it was mentioned last week (maybe by Doug O'Kane) that rumours of Oduor to Sheffield United are false?
There’s no sell on clause I’ve heard. So I’ve been told by this guy I know who’s known him for years. He keeps telling me his best position is midfield. Personally I’d like to see him there because he definitely has the ability
Unfortunately, we will sell. If someone offers anything close to £2m he will be gone. The board aren't bothered about 'potential' they just will cash in now. Ask a kid if he wants 2 sweets now or 10 sweets tomorrow, kid will pick 2 sweets here & now, our board are the same. Wouldn't trust em as far as i could throw em.....
Even in today’s ‘Covid’ climate there’s No way he’ll go for as little £2m, unless there are significant add-ons and possibly a loan back to us. They’ll be a price as with all our players but not £2m. Please feel free to bump this thread If what I’ve posted proves to be ******
Unfortunately, i think most of what you stated is right. Their remit is "selling for a profit", so they will go as soon as a decent offer comes in that is in excess of what we paid. Although youngsters do get their chance, as fans we will not see them develop, as im afraid we sell and replace quickly.
Oh...imho i dont think he will be going to the blades or anywhere...not just yet.....he needs game time.
Sometimes I think I’m on a bit of a downer. So it’s always good to read this message board - you realise there are people far worse off than yourself.
I doubt very much that would be allowed to happen. You can't purchase a club and use its assets to pay part of the purchase price, especially considering the Crynes have a 20% stake. That's like me walking into company and saying right I am taking you over then expecting to take over using the said businesses income as my purchase money. Probably quite illegal.
Why on earth do you think the board want longer term contracts. Not sell at the earliest opportunity but when it makes business sense. Or if a player forces a move. The longer the contract the bigger the bargaining power. It’s not kids.
Undisclosed is the right way to go. Why give your opponents Your spending power as a guideline. Tis one of the main reasons premier clubs are ripped off. Villa and others being the exception. Eg Stokes stance on Butland. Villa had/have the money but will only pay their valuation. Not Stokes ridiculous stand off figure. If Davies commands 1st place. Butland will either be sold cheaply ( in comparison to the £26m they were demanding) or He may himself see his last year out. And hope to pick up a nice signing on fee and salary elsewhere.
