Brown works his socks off. His fitness, attitude and work ethic is 1st class. He is skilful, but is not yet the finished article. Mainly final ball etc to work on. But that’s where the money lies. If he’d hit double figures this year, he’d be going for more and higher up the table team. 2 years left on contract, 22 years old, plenty of Champ and L1 experience and is attacking/wide man should command a decent fee. Any less than £3m and we’ve been shafted. I genuinely don’t think him going to Stoke or Brum will make him a better player. He’ll just earn more money. Which is fair enough. The question is whether Struber sees him as long term or not. Interesting to see Schmidt play RW tonight and also score against a decent Eng U21 team....
Yep - got to agree. However, as many have pointed out - Jacob always gave 100% - and as such we should all wish him well. Another thing to consider is this - there’s a few of us that never rated him - but we arnt football professionals - and the people that are professionals such as Gerhard and the people at Stoke can obviously see there is a footballer here. Let’s hope he does well - but not at the expense of us.
Not beating him mate. It’s just I have a different opinion on what I think he brings to the side. (Using Hammil off the top of my head probably not the best example. fair dos) was trying to find the best fit regarding positions. Hammill could chase back and defend when necessary but certainly I wouldn’t compare the effort ( Brown hands down) I also used Adam as the example in the way that I had confidence more in him when in front of goal. I have less confidence in Jacob to score when presented with a chance. ( Stats for Hammill surprised me by the way.) Fair do’s n’all on that.
First paragraph he’s always had those attributes in his locker. Re finished article. I have not seen him press on where most players appear to have done. So I am wondering if he’s reached the limit of his abilities not so sure more experience will improve that.
True. For me, this coming season was to be the confirmation of this, either way. Perhaps the club have identified this as well - so are selling now.
It's not out of the question to say look brownie. You've 2 years left. Lets get a good start and we wint stop you leaving in January. Still 18 months left, and still a decent fee. With the added incentive that brown continues to develop and has it in his own hands to keep himself in that shop window. I get the selling with 12 months left, but what next. We sign someone on a r year contract and sell him with 4 years left. Sometimes a club just has to make a stand. If as you say they " really wanted him to stay"
Just playing Devils advocate , what if he had a release clause if a certain fee was offered for his services, thus triggering the said clause & allowed him to speak to the club .
Even the mighty Donny Rovers hold out for better deals than us. Money gets waved at these owners and it’s in the till never to be seen again. Absolutely pathetic really. Same old, same old and here we go again. I guess the believers will say we don’t know the fee and we can’t stop him going blah blah blah, but give me a list of champ clubs who roll over like we do? Players incoming? Fire up wiki cos we won’t have heard of them ha ha.
Think the point thats being missed here is regardless of what people's obviously differing opinions of Jacob are, we are selling a player that was a first team regular in a championship team 4 days before the league season starts. I suppose the only saving grace this time is that at least it not just before the transfer window shuts
