I was only playing devils advocate , I havn"t a clue why he wants to leave or why the club want to sell , it might be clearer when the club make an official statement.

Unbelievable if true. £2m!? For someone who is potentially one of our most prized assets? We may as well not bother.

Also, why on earth would Browny want to go to Stoke. There's plenty of better clubs out there for ya lad. Another good season at Barnsley could have had him looking at a top 6 side or even lower prem.

Must be most over rated player i've seen play for Barnsley. Just because he came through academy.

Dont get the hero worship. I can see what Hecky meant about this one of our own nonsense.

It's a game of opinions of course but there's numerous things that stand out about his performances when I watch him play. Nothing to do with coming through the academy.

    - Quick
    - Skillful, can beat a man. Not easy at this level
    - Fit, runs his blood to water every game
    - Only forward in our side that wins headers
    - Multi-positional. RWM, ST, RB
    - Young, with potential to improve further still

Granted his finishing isn't the best and at times looks nervous in front of goal but more game time would solve that I'm sure.

I'll be disappointed to see him go.

The problem we’ve got is how can you persuade him to stay? Mowatt’s the captain & best player at the club & he’s leaving within the next year. I reckon most of us are confident Woodrow will also leave in the next 12 months.

Every other top performer for us gets sold regardless of contract length (see Moore & Potts) so where’s the motivation for him to stay?

We aren’t going to build anything long term & if he stays due to liking it here & us having a good team spirit it’s going to get broken up in no time at all so that would be daft on his part.

On a personal note I’m gutted he’s leaving. Having met him on a couple of occasions I can’t speak highly enough of him.

All I ever ask is players give 100% & fingers crossed they have the quality to go with it. I’ve been told Brown’s as dedicated a pro as we’ve had. When he was injured at the start of last season he was doing extra gym work & doing yoga & all sorts of classes at the Metrodome to get back as soon as possible. He’s a great lad who never moans & plays anywhere the team needs him. Absolute model pro & I hope he achieves great things.

Same for every owner we've ever had. They have all sold club assets. What these charlatans are doing is nothing new.

One star goes easily the others then go what's the point...the clubs got no ambition we might as well bugger off too ...so easy to lay the blame on the players
Personally I wonder how many more will go before dead line day arrives
Are we going to see another fire sale....
Hasnt the club learnt anything from last season's mistakes off the field...early signs say they haven't if Brown leaves cheaply ....
You dont get rid of your better players if you want to win anything.....hang on.... thats the fans point of view. .....not Conway and co's I'd guess......
I wonder what the gaffer really thinks of the situation

I just think we have Frieser, Thomas, Oduor and Simoes that can play right and left side of a three pronged attack. With clear instruction of what to do Schmidt can put himself about a bit too as we saw in his Brentford cameo and for the Austria under 21's.

Said it before Brown was picked every week blinkeredly at times.

    Why don't you rate him?

As said, his finishing isn't the best, but there are a long list of positives he brings to the team.

I'm still waiting for a valid argument as to why he's a poor player.

3 goals and 10 assists in 42 championship games,if we got 2 million it’s good business

Assuming some of them goals and assists will have been in the same game it's **** end product. However, he could jump and run around alot so goes down as a hero.

Yes 9 assists and it’s not like we score for fun is it? I think it would be a big loss personally.

If we think he’s worth 4m, shouldn’t we be keeping a player worth that??

Ideally, yes, but this breaks down as soon as another club wants one of our players because we don't pay/can't afford the wages of a proven Championship player.

Still waiting for the valid argument about why he's such a poor player.

Seeing as the stats you quoted show 13 attacking returns in 42 games (not all of them starts). That's a pretty good number in a poor side - almost a 1 in 3. We scored 49 league goals last season - Brown was involved in 27% of them.

Schmidt's finish against Forest and cross for the winner at Brentford were great, particularly the Forest winner - the sidestep to avoid the challenge was quality. But I've seen no evidence that he can put himself about - indeed the big questionmark for me is whether he has the physicality required for the Championship. If we're relying on him to provide the physicality that Browny added then we're in trouble imo....

Think we have to bear in mind how difficult it’s been owing to the revenue loss caused by covid for clubs to balance the books. I’m not advocating a fire sale but they’ll have lost a huge amount of cash coming into the business and I’m sure that this will have played a major part in the reluctant decision to sell. We’ll always be disappointed to lose hard working players but we’re set up to recruit and develop young talent and sell on for a profit. Clubs will be skint so we’ll have taken what we can get which probably isn't what we would all value him at.

Brown's record in league one doesn't come anywhere near close to Toney's though.

But as I say, they're two very different players, and it's impossible to compare the value of both of them.

I’d say this is partly true. Even Arsenal are having to sell to raise cash to fund any further transfers.

Clearly Brown wants to go - and the cash will help us offset losses. It may also ring-fence a few other players, or at least get more money for them.

We’ve always sold a player or two each year - it was expected. And Brown being on bench last week highlighted this.

I expect Bahre, Miller, Victor and another to go soon too - either loans or permanents. I expect Mowatt to stay, Woodrow might go, but only if cash is right and it’s to a southern club.

We’ll bring more in too though to replace.

The back 5 and most of the midfield will be untouched in this window, which is vital.
