But then we’ve also had fees be reported as less than they were worth, it’s how it is, when there’s no concrete evidence you have to work on assumption, for example Moyes claimed the up front fee for Stones was £1.5 million, it wasn’t. We don’t know what the fee is and until we get a decent source that gives us a good indication of what it actually is we won’t know either. All I’m saying is just because a Stoke newspaper and a Sky Journalist have said something doesn’t it’s true.
Brilliant this thread: He’s gone for £2 million. He hasn’t He has He hasn’t He has He hasn’t ........... He’s getting £15k a week. He isn’t He is He isn’t He is He isn’t .......... .......... LOL !!!!!!
Good luck Star man! Thank you for your efforts. Especially the last minute winner at Walsall, which set me on the way to winning £60 on an acca
I seem to recall the rumours for Stones were around £3m (after Flitcroft reluctantly rated him at £5m) and then it turned out it was just £2.2m from Patricks own admission at a supporters meeting. What does indicate a low fee is the suggestion of a sell on fee. As soon as you ask for a sell on, the buying club want to mitigate the risk and that lowers the fee you'll get. It also brings into question whether discounted fees "upfront" with a sell on fee are wise in the current market. I think personally I'd rather take a true fair fee up front and have the money to do something with. We got something from Stones and Mawson, but there is no guarantee at all that a player will progress and move in for more money. I can understand the idea, but I wonder if the Stones payday has painted a slightly skewed picture in future dealings?
Just imagine how much he’d be worth if could score as a striker or get his crosses past the first defender as a winger.
Best of luck to the lad. He was one of my favourite players, dunno why, I'm normally a fan of those who take care of the ball and are creative, however he worked hard and irrespective of how well he performed, he always gave his all every game. He was often profligate with the ball, sometimes scored, but always kept on trying to be positive. I don't really understand why people get worked up about the fee and especially the not knowing how much part. It's not our money (no matter how hard we try and convince each other it is) and at some point new players will come and go. The days of the one club footballer are pretty much dead and have been for a while, most players stay at one club for two or three seasons and then move on for whatever reason; money, more game time, change of scene etc. For every Jacob Brown leaving there's an Isaac Christie-Davies arriving or near enough. I support the team not the player, that's not to say I don't have my favourites. Doesn't diminish how I feel about the club.
Losing Brown isn't the end of the world for me. He's been a great player for us, but was often played in less effective positions. However, if we assume that the quoted figure of £2m is accurate, for a player with 2 years remaining on his contract, then it's another abysmal piece of business in financial terms. There was no inmediate requirement to sell him, and that's a laughable fee, if accurate.
Brown was never one of our star players, he worked hard but his scoring ratio was too low. If we received over £500k - £750k then we will have done well, he was not very experienced at Championship level. Length of contract remaining is irrelevant. We will not disclose transfer fees because it would influence how much we are asked to pay for other teams' players that we target. Its good business practice. I wish Jacob all the best, he always gave his best on the pitch for the reds. I just hope he is replaced by a striker who can bang some goals in this season. That is all we are short of to become a good Championship side.
He’s **** anyway. Can’t beat a man, loses the ball almost every time he gets it and doesn’t score enough. Far better out there for 2.5m.
If Brown is the only departure i will be quite happy but if not no problem.Every club is the same, players come and go but clubs are hopefully always there. Just look at some of the players on the birthday video who left but we are still a championship team. Also not many players stop at a club out of loyalty but also on the other hand the club will get rid of players who dont perform. And as for fees i didnt realise how many on here worked for BFC financial accounts dept.
That can be developed. Ryan Kent was possibly the worst winger I've seen in a reds shirt in terms of end product and decision making but now Leeds are sniffing around him for the Premier League a couple of years later.
Always struck me as a lovely lad - the sort that if your daughter brought him home, you’d be high-fiving the missus. No facts to support this, but if he has gone for £2m, is Watkins 14 times better? The sin of selling our players cheaply isn’t confined to the current Board however and goes back centuries. Better players have left and we’ve managed to replace them. We’ll miss his power, energy and work rate. But those attributes should be relatively easy to replace.
Exactly and we can probably double or triple Whitemans wages from Donny but it doesn’t mean they have rolled over and sold him.
