To be honest, I don't know which side to be believe anymore. I can't believe it's coming down to this. What a nightmare this is becoming
Conway and Lee need to come out and immediately disavow this as a possibility. Not ‘the club’ as an entity - THEY need to disavow it personally and stick their names to the statement for all to see. Barnsley folk won’t take bell’ooks, and if they take us away from Barnsley town as a business decision they need to know it won’t stand. Personally I’d rather watch a real Barnsley phoenix club in the 8th tier than this *business* in Lancashire. Nothing against any town or city in Lancashire, but it isn’t my home and doesn’t represent me. As a left-wing Labour man, I distrust the Daily Mail, but they won’t have pulled something this specific purely out of their ass. They’ve smelled something to publish this.
Most people are rapid to put down the reporting of the DM usually(and mostly, rightly so). Yet when a "sources close to" comes up regarding our club it is the fkin gospel and 100% happening, no ifs or buts, the owners are literally Hitler and they wont hear a word otherwise.
I can't stand our current owners. Hate them. But I'll wait till something more reliable than the Daily Mail reports this.
Surely the council could put a covenant on stating that the land should only be used for sporting stadia... I mean don’t they even have a say on planning in Barnsley? If they can stop my plan for an extension that adds a foot to the roofline of my house I’m sure they can stop whatever they’re worried will happen to Oakwell? That coupled with the fact that parks and schools playing fields have been systematically dismantled across the borough for housing and supermarkets doesn’t seem to fit with them holding back the Sale? I think we need more clarity from both sides. Something’s amiss somewhere...
I think an important point was that the owners of the ground Crynes and Council do not pay anything towards the maintenance, up keep and improvement of Oakwell. With no income from match day fans in the stadium its got to be an issue going forward. The income has to come from somewhere which will be player sales. Tough position to be in and we need more facts before riots are organised.
From what we know of both parties this seeks incredibly unlikely and the tone of the leak smacks of Conway et al
who to believe the investment arm of Some venture capitalists that have no links to the town or the family of the bloke who saved us from extinction. It’s a tricky one...
because selling a ground to foreign ‘investors’ has never previously been a recipe for disaster...the crynes certainly have clearly said they are happy to sell. The council would probably be looking for reassurances that perhaps they have not been given. What I do know that threats like this are no way to get anyone round here on the side of the venture capitalists.
I suspect there is going to be a lot 2 + 2 = 8 by a lot of people , would it not be wise to take a step back & actually see what develops before making accusations without knowing the facts , just a thought .
A lot of clubs have moved from their grounds now, Arsenal being a prime example, so Everton will be moving from Goodison too, it just makes financial and commercial sense these days
Not sure how they Council or the Crynes could trust them to pay for the ground when they haven’t even paid what they owe for buying a stake in the club. If we leave Oakwell to play at another EFL ground that would be it for me.
