Like our town centre, Oakwell is 20 years behind the rest of the Championship.

    1) Running a tight ship.
    2) Balancing the books or close to each season.
    3) Small year-on-year improvements to the stadium.
    4) Seemingly not taking money out of the club.
    5) Giving youth a chance instead of journeyman.
    6) Pretty much doing what they said they would when they took over - long term plan, nothing silly and balance the books.

Most of that was in place before they ever came wasn't it? Guess Cryne only upgraded the scoreboard - not sure what else he did to the ground?

Coventry were in the Prem at Highfield Road and they've had 30k plus at the Ricoh. Donny Rovers, yes they have improved their crowds

Can’t wait. It’s decrepit and a bit of an embarrassment. I know some love it - but it’s a relic of the past.

The Council have denied they have blocked any attempt to buy half of the stadium
And say they have never been approached to sell there half of the stadium.

    1. I wouldnt go to watch us play our home games at another team like Coventry are doing at Birmingham.

    2. I dont want us to build a soulless bowl type ground like rotherham or donny have out of town.

    3. I like oakwell been close to town transport hub and for pubs pre match. Nowt better then a big game and a few pre match pints to add to the atmosphere

    4. I've been far from impressed by these chancers in there spell at the club so far

I don’t get the romantic attachment to the ground, only the west stand remains from our history and it’s an embarrassment. You can’t tell me that, for example, Huddersfield or Rotherham fans have a diminished experience since they ditched the 19th century Stadiums for new ones?
Anyone who says they wouldn’t watch Barnsley away from Oakwell if they built a new stadium is just being resistant to change which is understandable, change is hard, but you need to work through that sht and don’t let it limit your future.

The consortium haven't stumped up the £2.5 million for the club yet what makes you think they have the means to build a new stadium or indeed buy the old one.

Good point Marlon. I have been irritated for years by the Queens Road car park. It is the first impression of the ground for Away supporters. Poor entrance, needs resurfacing and landscaping. It benefits people visiting the Metrodome too, which pre pandemic had visitors from outside the area. They have received around £60,000 per year in rent for over 10 years.
It would have been a win win situation and benefited the town, another opportunity missed.

Me too and the location will be crucial in the future imo .
To have a ground within easy access of the Towns Main Transport facilities plus the Facilities of the Town itself will be a godsend in the future with the way towns and cities are turning away from private vehicles with taxes etc .

I’m reeling at the prospect of leaving Oakwell and particularly the West stand/terrace from where I have watched us for 48 years.

I embrace and love it all the more for its basic facilities and no nonsense beauty.

I go to watch football for 90 minutes and nowt else. Nothing like sitting in the rain on a bitterly cold afternoon a goal down with 5 minutes to go - makes me feel alive.

The Council should call the owners' bluff. Offer to sell them the ground on condition that they agree to a new, modernised covenant safeguarding its future as a sports ground.

What if the Council opted to build a new stadium?
