My memory is hazy as I was only nine years old at the time. I remember going into the old Social Club with my Dad before the Reading game in the 94/95 season and being told it was demolished to make way for what is the new Pontefract Road End.

However, from memory it was nearer where they have the burger van. So why was it demolished?

From memory I’d say about half the old social club would be inside the perimeter wall of the new stand.

Were there ever plans to build a new one? Was it only open on match days?

Was it owned by the club?

Not sure how to phrase this but allegedly, whenever a social club was mentioned, a certain director who liked his biscuits would relay stories of misdemeanours, bad behaviour, over excitement from supporters, etc.

Dampened any enthusiasm to go back to something like it from the owners at the time.

I think it was open all week .The owner or landlord took over the mount then i think because the social club was demolished round about 1994 for the development of the ponty end. Kipper Jackson tried to demolish it a few years earlier.

i can remember being in with my day - not on a match day but he was decorating it once. I distinctly remember the tobacco stained wall paper!

and Kipper Jackson - is he still going? Not heard of him for a long time.

    Me an all.
Niver liked Social Clubs or working men’s clubs.
    Always preferred boozers.
Only club I used to go in that I liked was Coronation Club in Thurnscoe.
That were a great club at one time.

Sometimes go in East Dene before night games.
    But not over fond.

Phil Elrington RIP was steward of the club and had the Mount at the same time for a period of time.

    Top blowk, sadly missed.

I am lead to believe that the framework around the bar was the exact dimensions of the goal posts.

used to go in get in ground from side door and also get in at half time, so packed that you either missed end of first half or begining of second, not big enough for that time so needs to be bigger if building a new one
