They did a better job modelling than Neil Ferguson who predicted 85000 deaths in Sweden.

Cant wait. Its going to be epic.

I think it is safe to say that lockdowns do not work.

You cannot suppress a virus by locking people down.

I think its safe to say that face coverings do not work.

You cannot prevent a virus spreading by wearing a cheap disposable mask or something made out of neoprene.

You can argue the toss all you want but the evidence is there in black and white. Spain,France,Germany, various US states...

And there will be no furlough this time.

The difference between the UK and Sweden.

The UK powered by a lot of media hysteria want attempt to control a virus.

Sweden have decided that the virus is here to stay and are trying to get on with their lives the best they can.

Not going to happen here though is it? Too many "I'm not having a test(ers)" out there. For some reason I guess the average Chinese person existing under a communist (authoritarian? ) regime will be compliant :).

Data today suggests 45% of cases are still coming from care homes, 21% in schools and 18% in the work place.

Just 5% from that hot bed of hospitality that keeps getting mentioned on here.

Grown up discussions needed on the actual facts that are out there rather than these blanket bans and decisions that punish the many.

Sweden having last laugh, Boris was going to adopt same strategy but bottled it, thanks to scientists, Whitty and his crew, they have had zero deaths for days and only 120 cases a day, while everyone else is up into 1000's

And not a penny spent by the government on a recruitment drive for carers to support the vulnerable and help them isolate.

We should have had thousands of extra carers by now who could isolate in waves with the vulnerable and protect them. Instead we are in no better position to protect care homes and old folk than we was in march.

The only difference between now and then is we have decimated the the hospitality industry and demonised the youth.

It's a clever virus. That clever it even brainwashes folk. It's that clever it only appears between certain hours and in certain places. It's a genius mo fo. Load of ballax. It's not a virus it's a distraction tool of the highest order.

So just to be clear as I've not seen those stats:

    Saturday saw 4,422 new cases

1,989 infections were in care homes
    928 infections were in schools
    796 were in a workplace
    221 were in pubs/hospitality

    Is that what you're saying?
Because if there's almost 1,000 new cases in schools, in one day, they need to be shut immediately

Was in Morrisons in Scarborough yesterday, empty shelves, big queues and not a roll of bog roll to be found in the place.

Apparently some Karen off facebook has informed the populace that Scarborough is going into lockdown next week, it's spread like wildfire so panic has ensued, the usual suspects who live for 'lol's 'likes' and 'Huns' have all had their say and panic buying has ensued again.

Get a grip please Boris, lockdown hasn't worked nor has wearing facemasks. Protect the most vulnerable and lets just crack on with life.

You need to define your useage of "work".

You can suppress it, you cant stop it.

Totally and utterly incorrect. Stop peddling this Facebook style nonsense.

    Yes you can.

Run the sceanrio with no lock down, no masks, and then compare the two. If you really think the outcome would be no different then you're living in cloud cuckoo land.

    Correct, they're Tories after all.

National factors such as climate, health, population density, eating habits etc. are all massively important. However the deaths per 1m people is only slightly lower in Sweden than it is here and Italy. It's worse than France.

If we lockdown again, why will that help defeat the virus. When we re-emerge from lockdown, why will it be different. Why will there not be a third, fourth or fifth wave. And how is this strategy even remotely sustainable.

It saved many lives. Wearing masks does. "hasn't worked" is just a lazy binary phrase. What are you comparing it to?

How am I supposed to "crack on with life" when Ive got two elderly parents with chorinc breathing problems and a ten year old in school. Shouyld I just leave them in their hourse for x months until "it all blows over" or we find a vaccination?

Lockdown isnt about defeating the virus. It's mitigation.

I would need to go back and find the data but as with most things it will be a robust sample size rather than every single case. As we don’t have a track and trace system worth mentioning there’s no way of knowing where every single case came from.

I think the report I saw was about 20% of the total you’ve given and it probably wasn’t as recent as just yesterday.

Its expensive mitigation. Economically it's a disaster. It cause deaths and suffering on it's own.

Are you saying the virus doesn't exist or that it's not spreading again? The government's response again is muddled, but that's because they've put politics over public health. But that's the Tories for you.
