I mean, we're playing Chelsea away in the cup tonight, it's a dream tie if ever there was one. There should be 6,000 of us on buses down there, reminiscing about Odejayi and that 2008 cup run, full of hope and dreams but there's barely a murmur on here.

Personally, I just can't get excited for this season knowing that there's little chance of us actually getting to see a game live. I want the lads to do well, of course I do, but when I saw the result on Saturday it just didn't hurt like it should, I shrugged and got on with my evening where I went out for a curry with a mate who I sit with at Oakwell and we didn't even mention the game once all night. I will probably end up paying the tenner to watch it tonight, but it's not a given like it would be in a normal season.

Football without fans is just a bit crap isn't it?

I am same, I am also very fed up of the huge sums of money around in the top leagues now. It makes it less enjoyable for me personally especially as a fan of a 'smaller' club who despite having rich owners are restricted to what we can spend. I much prefer the prospect of going to watch Penistone Church when fans are allowed back in as its so much cheaper etc. I will always love Barnsley though and they will always be my team, but football as a whole is not in a good state currently.

You're not alone mate. There's a group of us jump on Zoom calls every game an hour before kick off, half time, and then after the final whistle. During lockdown I wouldn't miss a second of those calls and absolutely nothing would get in the way of being rooted to the sofa with a beer ahead of the match.

With 44 league games to go the intensity from my side isn't there. I imagine it's the same for the players as well at times. With so little riding on the games right now compared to lockdown it's hard to be as bothered.

On Saturday I went to Wakefield AFC vs. Jubilee FC at Fev Rovers. Paid for the Barnsley game on my phone, and sat on the terrace watching both (and joined the Zoom call at half time from my phone). Was all a bit half arsed to be honest.

I totally agree. I’ve not enjoyed one game being shown on tv. I know the latest Leicester game had 6 goals but it still did not grab me.
Football is not football without the fans interaction.

I thought I was the same, but I posted a very ill thought out and bitter thread after we lost on Saturday which suggests that I still do care about it all. It's hard to get too excited knowing how many clubs will struggle to keep afloat this season (possibly even our own), and that fans won't be allowed in properly until at least next season - Charlton away last season was probably the last game I'll ever be able to go to with my dad. But it's still something to look forward to on a weekend (or during the week as tonight) and a distraction from the utter ***** the world has become.

Spot on. Like training games. As for losing. I'm that used to it at Championship level. Unless we chuck a result away from a winning position it doesn't bother me as much.

I’m starting to feel that way while at the same time being disgusted at the way the big clubs are carrying on spending huge sums while bleating about how much their greed league is losing. On the BBC site this morning there is an item about Wolves getting yet another Portuguese player in. Only £37 million. What a bargain! Elsewhere in the same news roundup they talk about the hardships facing the likes of Dagenham and other National League sides.

Perhaps most of us here would say if it wasn’t for this irrational love for Barnsley FC we would just walk away from the sport altogether. I know I would. I find I am watching highlights programmes and sometimes live ones on Sky and thinking why am I doing this? Does it really matter any more?

I took the heavily discounted offer on the season tickets feeling sure we would all be back soon. That seems a long way off now.

There’s so much wrong with football, and football during COVID is even worse. But I still look forward to match days and find myself checking every day to see whether there’s any transfer news or gossip.

It helps get me through an otherwise relentlessly monotonous existence of being trapped in my own home on an almost permanent basis.

nor ars@d in the slightest about tonight , i doubt i would have been in a normal season however if truth be told, a midweek cup game that we are more than likely to lose in a competition that our opponents dont give a toss about.... romance eh! id still have gone of course as it would have been a good night to have a few beers and see a few friends.

im thinking of ground hopping at step 3 and below this season, lots of local league football in the isthmian, southern and wessex leagues that are fairly close and local to me..... f*** sake get fans back in !!

I agree, I'm not buzzing for the cup tie as I would if there were fans there. And if there were fans there we wouldn't be going on about how it doesn't matter and how the Coventry match is more important. We'd all be buzzing hoping to get one over the big boys again!

Today is annoying - it would have been great to bunk off work early meet the London Tykes in the White horse - take out a second mortgage to buy the beers and then on to Stamford Bridge - it would have been a good evening out - even if we get hammered in the football
I will watch tonights game and have a beer on zoom but its not the same - better than nothing though.

I didnt think I had the same intensity of support and wasnt too bothered by the Luton defeat - it would have been worse had I had a 3 hour drive back but I was still in a foul mood after the robbery on Saturday - would have been much calmer had we lost fair and square

I don't mind the online streaming / TV option but I've realised that I very rarely follow it intently as I would a live game. Often it drifts into the background and I'm more focused on my phone, or the TV if I'm watching on a laptop. I've concluded that I'm content with the free streaming options via my season ticket, but I'd be potentially wasting money paying the £10 a game options when I have to.

Tonight's game is a particularly good indicator of this. Lampard has indicated that he's using it to improve his team's fitness, so we may see a stronger team lined up against us than would be typical at this stage. However, the combination of a different viewing platform, two key suspensions in defence and the fact that I'm much more bothered about us getting 3 points on Saturday, after the first two league results, means that I'll be looking out for highlights, rather than watching it live.

I'm still bothered by our results/performances, but as others have said, the intensity is lessened at the moment as the results are (hopefully) not pivotal on us surviving, as they were in the restart. I'm more concerned currently by Struber becoming more vocal over incoming transfers and the ongoing shitshorm at Boardroom level, which has a potentially greater impact on our season than the fact we've lost the first two games. It's not just the lack of spectators in grounds that's causing the reduced engagement with the club.

Beyond BFC, it's only playing FPL that's keeping me interested in the wider football going on in the silly money league.

I'm going through something similar with the NFL restart too, which is another thing that I'd generally invest more time watching than I am currently, so it extends beyond football at some level.

I'm exactly the same, with little prospect of returning I've lost a lot of passion for it. It's just not the same at all watching on the tv.

I'm watching a lower league game on Saturday instead of our game, I didn't watch the Reading or M'Boro games, but I will watch it tonight! I just can't get excited about watching it on the tv, last season was a mini season with a huge incentive at the end of it, but now we still can't get in I'm just gutted about it all!

Nevermind all those leagues. When are you braving the train up to the smoke to see a game? Clapton CFC start again properly this Saturday!

I expect us to lose or draw on Saturday. We never got anything against Coventry until recently. I'd have been more optimistic and felt better about things had we beat Luton as I didn't expect a result at Reading. The Luton result was the main dampener so far for me.

Greed league complaining to the Culture Secretary that they stand to lose £670m because of the extended lockout, while Chelski alone spend >£200m.

Meanwhile, Tottenham get game v Orient called off costing the O's a hundred grand in TV money, which would have lasted them months.

    Makes me sick.
