Are you suggesting 61k of people have 'long covid' without actually getting this virus?

Are you suggesting that every positive covid case has long Covid.

 

Could the situation implode and people and businesses start saying "fine me then". "I can't pay you what I haven't got". At the end of the day they can't send everyone to prison for sticking two fingers up at the establishment we'd become a penal colony in no time.

 

Another barrier for people with disabilities who may feel anxiety at having to explain the exemption.

Judging by some of the dismissive comments on here, talking about dead human beings as statistics and numbers with little or no consideration for people’s losses leads me to think we’re becoming a penile colony

They shouldn't have to explain it they should just be able to show a card or lanyard saying they are exempt and carry on with what they are doing.

The issue is that you can print the exemption cards off the gov website without question of being exempt which is each persons choice.

My main issue is as someone who works in hospitality asking people to put masks on as they enter has on more than one occasion been met with a barrage of abuse. I'm just following guidelines doing my job trying to avoid a fine that we can I'll afford in this industry.

If your exempt wear your lanyard or show us the documentation we aren't here to judge but we have to check as we risk being fined if not.

 

1. You do not have to explain your exemption even if pushed.
2. You are not required to wear a Lanyard or a badge. you definitely do not have to carry anything to prove your exemption. This pressurising people with disabilities to wear an identifiable mark has too much of 1930s Germany for me.
3. Some of the abuse Ive seen has been uncalled for. Some has been entirely justified given the over zealous pushing by staff as to why a part is exempt.

Where I work we ask and accept the answer which is correct to me.

I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks but wear my mask during my shift even though it makes me feel on edge as I'd feel conscious of people questioning why I'm not wearing one which is worse for me than the anxiety and panic.

The main issue is we have to ask people to put masks on as the guidelines state or risk being fined.

We aren't trying to offend or put pressure on as to why people are exempt we have to be seen to be doing it. If the answer is I'm exempt that's fine but we have to ask.

We have people coming into pubs like mystery shoppers round here reporting places not following the guidelines and possibly being fined.

 

They shouldn't have to show anything either. I get the point you are making and some will manage. But for some it will be the difference between leaving the home or not.

 

No venue should get fined for not following guidelines then and just presume anyone not following guidelines is exempt

 

Neither scenario is good for your health.

The law is do not challenge. Not challenge and dig.

Should you keep applying pressure for someone to reveal their exemption you leave yourself potentially liable under the Equalities Act. And its the courts discretion for damages.

The Covid police here are the same. However they cannot fine a venue if a customer is exempt.

 

I don't ask at all as if someone said no I have no powers beyond the initial confrontation. Hence it is pointless. I just supply masks should anyone come without one. What is needed is proper policing by those qualified and in a position to apply penalties. We're nearly 7 months in and we don't have that yet.

So the police can't use the app on work phones because it isnt secure but the public have to have it on theirs if they want to go anywhere?

 

A couple of weeks ago the scientists said around 8% of the population had had COVID, that’s 5.43m people in the UK. If we’re saying that less than one in ten have long-COVID that sound pretty realistic for me.

My wife has had COVID but never tested positive and is suffering from long-COVID. She has no underlying health conditions.
