He shouldn't even try to. He's become one of the best opening ODI batsmen in the world. Should concentrate in that and t20s.
Question is...will he want to? Or will they have another Adil Rashid on their hands who only wants to play white ball cricket?
Its a blessing for Yorkshire and although Jonny will be disappointed it will give him clarity going forward. I must say though, I get the feeling that the powers that be couldn't wait to get shut of him, strangely he was always on the edge of being dropped. Sometimes your face just doesn't fit .
I never understood towards the backend of his test career why he didn't just smash it like he does in the one dayers.
As soon as golden balls Buttler got the gloves that was game, set and match for Jonny, although Buttler is a terrible keeper. With regards to smashing it, it sometimes looks like either last chance saloon or the player doesn't give a **** .
Not sure his face doesn't fit, his mate is the England test captain. Bairstow's form has been poor for a while now, in fact, since he broke into the One Day team. He's too predictably clean bowled all too often by a red ball these days.
He tinkered with his stance and bat position when facing up, it worked a treat in the World Cup and on the build up to it. He then had to construct a completely different stance etc for the Ashes. You can't do that between tests really, you can make minor adjustments but not wholesale changes. He then got a bit muddled in his approach and lost his off stump. He does right to concentrate on white ball stuff now. Very few can play all formats at a high level, Smith and Kohli are the 2 which spring to mind. They can could in at 10/3 and play a measured innings, most attacking white ball cricketers struggle with that. I was pleased with Buttler this summer he seemed at ease with his game and looked patient in tests.
I think only Kohli would get in a world xi for all 3 formats. Smith isn’t a bad ODI player but he wouldn’t get in our side.
