Surely this is where the Murray 'snake' talk comes from. I was puzzled at the time of Stendel going that Devaney was overlooked for the caretaker role given he was the logical next in the chain of command. If Murray spragging on Stendel and cosying up to the owners was so he'd be rewarded with the first team reigns over Disco, then yep, the man's a snake. Of course in fairness, Disco might not have wanted it and they might have chosen Murray as he already had managed at Mansfield.
Murray was part of first team set up under Stendel, so he and others Tonge etc would have been in line before an academy coach
When did Murray get moved from the u18s. I know Stendel wanted Tonge but when did Murray get the promotion?
Based on unsubstantiated rumours we have this view that Murray is a problem and the owners are the ones keeping him as part of the setup. As a curve ball, maybe he’s actually a really good coach and both Stendel and Struber saw value in him being part of their first team setup? I have heard that Struber’s relationship with Murray and how highly he thought of him was the reason Rose didn’t get involved post lockdown.
Absolutely right. Murray has made it clear several times, that he prefers the coaching role in the background, rather than the main man. Less hassle and all that. He didn’t like the role at Mansfield or Boston in the end. It affected him too much. I think he’s a decent coach. And currently, there’s no evidence to say otherwise. Devaney’s a nice guy. Works hard and all that. I can’t comment on whether he has the extra quality to step up to 1st team coach or not. I’ve no idea. I do believe though, both Devaney and Hassell distanced themselves away from previous caretaker roles so they didn’t get dragged into the mire etc. Finally, I think we all know, that regardless of whatever, our owners are no mugs. If Murray didn’t fit the Bill, he’d have gone a long time ago.
