Without really racking my brain, who was the last player we signed that got the fans really excited for there quality?

Not a bad shout. I would throw McPhail and Dean Gorre in to the hat.

    Maybe Dale Jennings?

Adam Hammil was the last one who had proven quality that I can think of
Before that you are going back to the likes of Andersson - I was over the moon when we announced his permanent signing

Could genuinely be Frimpong or Mido. We are talking about hype and reputation before the signing, not performance at the club. Probably explains why we haven’t signed anyone I’ve heard of since!

Anderson de Silva was quality even if we hadn’t previously heard of him

Hammill the second time around for sure. I wasn’t counting loan signings but extending Nardiello’s loan and making it permanent excited me.

The signing of McIndoe made me think we were kicking on as a club and getting an exciting player

My point being that it’s not like we sign quality year In year out and the fact that some are mentioning players from 10+ years ago........it’s no surprise to me that the board aren’t signing box office names as it’s not in our blue print......I’m not saying that it’s right cos its us fans that are seeing players and managers going through a ever revolving door but this is what BFC does and these owners are no different from the previous owners

Using hindsight, you’d say either Woodrow or Mowatt.

But the last signing I was genuinely excited about as we signed them was maybe Hammill for his second stint. Even that was a risk at the time though.

Unfortunately you didnt read the small print with that one but yes I was impressed at the time as well
No problem with release clauses but they have to be a bit more realistic than that one was

Could be the only way they’ll sign for you though. We had the same with Hamill didn’t we? Or have I made that up?

Can't say I was excited until he actually did start playing for us. Those just another 2 weeks, just another 2 weeks had me fearing the worst!

Yeah but I don’t think even Keith Hill thought that transfer would turn out like that! 90% of Barnsley fans were done with Vaz Te after Portsmouth away and he was basically making the numbers up on the bench, until Brown crocked Butterfield and the rest is history ....... 5-2!!!!!!!!!!!!
