Anybody defending them after the openness of stubers interview Seriously wants to give their heads a bl 00dy good shake....you've now heard it from the horses mouth so to speak.... The owners have no ambition In my opinion it's time the cowboys left town ... Nothing but an embarrassment to the town
Disagree. It's the words of a manager trying to deflect blame in order to keep his stock high. He had two choices today. Publicly accept that he got the lineup wrong today, that his subs were wrong and that he was to blame for yet another abysmal performance. Or blame the owners and sft like we wouldn't have conceded two piss poor goals if they had bought him another striker to go with the one they bought him a few weeks ago. One of those makes him look weak, the other makes him look like he's doing a good job with his hands tied behind his back. The words of a coward imo. Words of someone who refuses to accept any weakness.
he wasn't saying this after Brentford, we were expected to kick on. We can't find a manager that can manage for more than 1 season.
So you think the board have shown ambition to achieve on field success? I'm not saying Strubers perfect far from it but he only said today what's been apparent every transfer window since they took over and looks like leading to them losing another manager because of it namely their only interest is profit from player sales.
Who keeps the club running then??, the board might not be perfect, but some of the accusations made against them are ludicrous
The trouble is that there is a bit of truth in both camps. It is true Struber has not been backed by the board as regards quality signings but the ones Struber brought in (if he had any say them) have not been a success either (Solbaur apart). Furthermore his team selections have been dubious and baffling at times. Oduor and Schmidt omitted today and Ritzmaier and then Victor (has hasn't even cut it at league 1 and 2 level) brought on. Williams in midfield with Ludwig on the bench?
I’m no great fan of the clubs owners but something doesn’t add up for me. The owners are on record from the first press conference that they would not be funding running the club but would look to improve the income by developing players. Struber must have known that we aren’t going to go out and buy players that will want 20k per week salaries. We had a good window so far keeping all but one of the team that he had performing at mid table levels second half of the season. We signed another Centre Half and another striker both of which must be his choices. We have kept Woodrow Mowatt Chaplin so not made the mistakes of last summer. I think the board thought we had enough to move up the table. Like Luton are doing. So did most of us before the season started. Not sure really what else Struber was expecting
IMHO over the summer Struber's head has been turned and he's completely lost interest in lil ol Barnsley. I think he came back reluctantly and only because he was contractually obliged. His heart and mindset haven't been in it since day one this season.
We know they aren't perfect, they do things all the time that wind me up and most other fans. However, Strubers actions recently have been shocking, he claims he hasn't been backed properly with quality, yet pretty much every signing made since he has come in has been some player he knows that clearly he has picked. Only ICD and Helik maybe he hasn't has much say in but the rest are all his picks. They have given him what he has asked for since he come in apart from a target man style striker. They had a deal lined up for one too in Kulenovic, but the player himself chose not to come here. That is not the fault of the owners, it's down to what the player wanted.
I think the club selling Brown is what started this. Perhaps he saw him as a major part of his team and just like that he got sold - that might be when he realised that the lack of ambition that exists at Oakwell.
i think it’s both, he undoubtedly got team selection wrong today, and blame lies with him for the result, he can also though, be allowed to be frustrated with the amount of support he feels he has received from the owners to help him improve the situation.
In all honesty isn't the only reason a manager from the continent would come to manage us as a stepping stone to a bigger club either in England or a return back home. Much as I love Barnsley FC I can't believe that we are seen as an attractive long term job for foreign managers. If we were I think they'd be bringing their families with them. And was it Stendel who admitted that he'd never heard of us until our interest emerged? As a result we shouldn't be surprised when a manager achieves something and attracts interest that they're off at the first opportunity. Then again, if the model is to generate funds then release clauses and regular managerial departures for a fee work very nicely. The owners have an interesting decision now. Recruit abroad again, in which case imo we should expect it to be fairly short term or seek a bit of continuity by appointing someone from the UK. I think we badly need some continuity and someone who might stick around 2/3 years but I suspect I know which direction the owners will take. The other essential to get a manager to stick around is of course to properly strengthen the team such that it can compete. It might not have made any difference in Struber's decision but finding the forward signings we've all known we've needed for ages (and were heightened by selling Browny) should have happened by now and that may have made the decision a bit harder.
