If I were a football manager, even an unemployed football manager, I wouldn’t want to manage Barnsley. Hecky hounded out because of dispute about recruitment. Stendel tries to jump ship because he’s not happy about recruitment. Struber voices concern that directors haven’t the same ambition as he has regarding recruitment. Any manager taking over at Barnsley is on a hiding to nothing. My advice to any manager looking at the job would be - steer clear.
Someone unknown wanting to work in a more high profile league? Someone for whom it would represent a significant pay rise? One who is currently unemployed?
There’ll be plenty of interest I imagine. It’s only when whoever gets the job is a few months into the role that they’ll wonder why on earth they took it on.
Quite a few - 3 of the last five have been poached to move on to bigger things - Johnston to Bristol City, Hecky to Leeds and now Struber to NYRB Id say its worth a punt if I was an up and coming manager
They’ll know what they’re taking on it’ll be in their contract and from previous managers quotes etc. It’s when they can’t do what they said they could during the interview that they’ll realise and then blame someone else , I’m not sticking up for the board in the way they running finances , recruitment etc but I’m not buying coaches complaining when things aren’t going well and a lot of it is because of team selection and positional deployments . The board didn’t put Adeboyejo on Saturday instead of Chaplin for instance . I can guarantee Struber wouldn’t have said what he had if NYRBs hadn’t come in for him . As I’ve said before you take the shilling you take the sh it
Four of the last five head coaches have left with their reputations enhanced from when they took the job, and moved onto other jobs. The way the owners operate does give any coach a bit of a get out for when results take a turn for the worse.
No football managers will be interested, or approached by the board. However, plenty of head coaches will be.
Yes ....... because they will be promised the world - and after the manager has worked their socks off to see success just a arms length away ....... the board will then back track and not support them. We have had 3 managers in a very short period of time. If any one of those managers would have been properly supported by the board then Barnsley would be in a very strong position right now. Personally if I was a football manager, after looking at what’s happened to the previous 3 managers, I wouldn’t touch Barnsley with a barge pole.
I agree to an extent. It won't attract the right managers, I would imagine. Any employed manager is going to take a look at our setup and know they're on a hiding to nothing without 3-4 good quality additions.
I'm merely pointing out that if BFC is not an attractive option due to the recruitment situation, other clubs are available. But, that doesn't mean that the job is going to be any easier than it is here. You seem to be suggesting that it is. Whatever you may think of PH & DS, they didn't find the job any easier elsewhere. In fact, they probably found things harder.
Hecky Hounded out. ? Wouldn’t have thought he took much Persuading. Given the wages he was offered. Stendel out of work. As far as I’m aware.Looking for work I assume. Morais. Worst by a country mile. Manager of year last year in the k league. Must be a very poor league. Struber. If he fails, will be out of the job, back In Europe on lesser money than at Barnsley. Have to agree, anyone in a stable role and financial position. Will not touch it with a bargepole. But most managers/coaches out of work will jump at the chance. Unless they are loaded. All the Barnsley managers during my lifetime have either disappeared not long after. Or, with the exception of a small few. Finished up down the leagues or out of work. Can only think of a couple who’ve carved out a career. Probably Danny Wilson having the longest stint.
