Scientists don't believe that the Big Bang was the start of everything, though.

They explain that our current undertsanding of physics only takes us back to the singularity and that the universe appears to be expanding from that based on their observations.

Scientitsts continue to search for a greater understanding of the Universe and they will modify theories from there, based on new information as it becomes available. Not sure why there is such negativity towards science at times.

I guess depending on your definition, forward "time travel" is possible by moving a lot or staying closer to the earth so that you age slower (albeit to an imperceptible extent)

My theorey is that we are an experiment being conducted by aliens. They have been studying us for millions of years, trying out different conditions, species, and environments.
They are looking at how species evolve, whether for instance size is best (such as dinosaurs) or developed intellect is better (such as Homo Sapiens).
When they get fed up or they feel threatened they wipe out the dominant species and see what happens next.
They also beam the process live to their viewing screens on their homeworld for the entertainment of the masses, a bit like The Truman Show.
Every now and then they drop in a comedy character who makes them laugh, currently it's a double act, Trump & Johnson. This is to rest the gullibility of the populace.
The reason there's no other life forms within light years of us is because we're too bloody dangerous. At the entrance to the Milky Way there's alien signs up saying "No Entry-dangerous experiment in progress"
They also want to study how a species destroys itself and it's planet, in the pursuit of short term profit, in order to learn lessons and demonstrate to their offspring how not to run a planet.
There's a possibility that the above may not be true

    But you never know....

    signing off...nanoo nanoo

My theory is that if God had made it he would have made it round he would n't have been daft enough to make it flat!:)

I believ that to be the case. I think if you travelled to a distant planet at multiple times the speed of light or beyond our Solar system on 20 or 30 year round trip all the people you know would be long dead. That is why I always got confused with Star Trek being able to send and receive instant (or a least timely) messages from Starfleet HQ on earth whilst most of the way across the galaxy. I think the SF tech though was about creating their own worm holes with the Warp engines distorting and bending space.
In spite of all that clever theorising (it was the '60s) I always used to laugh at a) the somewhat inappropriate theme music for a SF programme and b) the 'Woosh' of the Enterprise as it went past (in a vacuum!!!) during the opening credits. Amazing how the universal translator gave everyone American accents in a natural human voice and yet the onboard ship computer sounded sounded monotone and mechanical.

I like the fact the Penny character grounds the program and puts the nerds into context.. The episode where in the background she built a flat pack piece of furniture in about 10 minutes whilst the geniuses who decided to help spent much longer debating and designing an 'improved' version and went off to the hardware store to get the bits they needed. Dr. Sheldon Cooper is one of the best characters in any sit-com IMO. Each to their own though.

The universe., like many of those ' out there' science projects asks the wrong question. For me it is not HOW it exists or came to be, but Why?
