It's not good news for anyone. We're stronger together. I completely understand why the Scotts are feeling this but that doesn't make it good news. Brexit is terrible but ripping apart the union is great? Not it isn't. It's awful. There is nothing to celebrate here, just two nations becoming weaker. Friendship is good, isolation isn't. Nationalism is the worst trait this world has ever endured, we're all equal citizens of the earth.

    This post is a sham.

Stronger together? You don’t know that. Proof of what you say will only become clear once independence is achieved.
Why is England the only country who does not want to be independent?

I’m afraid I have to disagree. The ethics and values in Scotland are very very different. If the Scots so chose, they have an absolute right to determine their own future rather than have it determined by a Westminster parliament. Ditto the Irish. My only hope is that one day the people in the north of England get off their knees and demand greater control of their own destiny; preferably within a Federal England but if not.....

IMO The UK is a successful 20 century principle but is unfit for purpose in the 21 century.

Tbh I’d have thought the British Govt is more nationalist .
It used all the traits of Nationalism to breakaway from imo from a far bigger union than GB .
Scotland are wanting to use Nationalism to rejoin this bigger Union whereas the British Govt want to go alone .
There’s only one nationalistic body that’s stirring the pot against nasty Johnny Foreigner and rallying against refugees .
Scotland seems to be welcoming these refugees and preaching EU unity and are seeking independence to rejoin the status quo our nationalistic Govt are hostile to .

So, obviously the EU and UK are having major issues resolving the border issue with Ireland.

What do you propose when leaving us to join the EU with the border with England?

Then it can be applied with Ireland.

I would imagine there would have to be a hard border which will be hard in both directions.
The Irish border has always been a problem but I’d hope one day there would be re unification in Ireland.

    Fair.

Wasnt a trick question or being deliberately obtuse.

I dont hold a view either way with Scotland. Other than if that's what you want, it's what you want.

Bit obviously it isnt something I've heard so far. Heard all the currency, money arguments, but no one seems to have mentioned this border issue. Which would obviously arise if you rejoined the EU...

Whatever happens, the whole shebang has been horlicks lol

Interesting one about the Naval base issue.....the SNP (apparently) made a promise that should Orkney & Shetland vote against Scottish independence, they would be free to stay in the UK or become a Crown dependency....perhaps , if that became the case the base could move to Scapa Flow?

In what way. I've missed something.

How would it be an issue with the border with england if they stayed with the uk?

If farmer mctavish wanted to sell sheep to farmer smith in England I’m sure that will still happen and vice versa.
I’m sure cross border trade will still happen.
Let’s not look for problems which are not there.

I'm not specifically looking for any.

I just see all this kerfuffle with ireland, and thought surely that would also come up the same

Not seen the reports anyway, I assume it's gone massively in favour now of independence?

Never heard of that before mate. Interesting as you say.
My daughter lives in Shetland and she has never mentioned this although I do know many Shetlanders would love the chance to go it alone.
