I know nothing about the player I mentioned above, never heard of him, picked that transfer completely at random. That was part of the point.

You've clearly missed the point though. How can we compare transfer fees when one of the players in the comparison, hasn't been sold? We've said that our valuation and Cardiff's are miles apart. So I find it very unlikely that the board will "spaff" at the sight of £2m.

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't. I firmly believe we'll not sell Woodrow today as Cardiff aren't prepared to pay what we want. Bash the club all you want, but if we stand firm on both Woodrow and Mowatt, then that represents at least half a good day. It makes all the whining about selling our best players too cheaply, look a bit daft then.

As I say, I might have gone the wrong way about making my point. I fully understand that we're all entitled to our opinion, and often, those opinions are poles apart.

I just don't understand this need to be negative about something that may or may not happen. I'll stand getting absolutely roasted if we sell Woodrow for any less than £4m today, but from the noises both coming out of Oakwell and Cardiff, that doesn't look like happening.

I think it's all about looking at the bigger picture. Slowly but surely, we are making steps towards being more competitive at this level. We're tying players down to longer contracts, paying transfer fees as opposed to signing loans or freebies, and actually receiving more substantial fees for players, rather than losing them for nothing at the end of their contract. It's the groundwork towards being able to build a more successful squad on he pitch. We've lost only 1 key player so far in this window, and none in the last one, which is a far cry from transfer windows prior. I agree some of the fees are a little lower than we'd hope, but the turnover of key players is starting to seize in comparison.

Anyway, gonna have an afternoon off here instead of tracking transfer progress now. As I say, it was intended as a bit tongue in cheek, and I apologise that it wasn't.

I just bought a double cheeseburger for £1.59 what does that make Woodrow worth?

Yeah the spaff point was a bit strong when I read it back so I altered it - you’d quoted me by then though.

And I agree, the value rumoured for Woodrow is only rumour until the point he is sold. If he isn’t sold (and it does seem to have gone quiet), then fair enough.

I agree with your view about constant negatives and I think that drowns out the more analytical reasoned discussion about some of the questionable and serious things going on at our club at the moment.

Whether we're further progressed on the pitch than say when heckingbottom was in place when they took over, thats highly debateable and only time will show if thats the case or not.

And while on the face of it, signing players on longer contracts is a positive, it could also be a millstone if we get relegated and/or the player turns out to be inadequate. I think thats a big concern for me at the moment that we've got a very limited avenue for disposing of poor signings. But thats the market and not the owners. But they will have to look at that and consider if long term contracts and significant fees are as wise as they should be at that time.

I've not seen Kane play (if that goes through), but hopefully he adds quality in an area we're very short and fingers crossed we get 2 or 3 more in to replace the large numbers we released and be challenging for a start on merit.

Fundamentally I somewhat but not wholly agree with you. I agree that "we" need to have more analytical reasoned debates on here, but not all the time. That would get tedious. You need a balance of "one liners" having a joke as well, and I don't agree that they drown out the reasonable debates. There has to be a place for both sides, otherwise it would be boring, and that wouldn't be good for morale with everything else going on in the world.
