We are quick to have a go at them when they make mistakes and so it's only fair we give them praise for today in not letting problems between them get in the way of business on the pitch. Herbie Kane had a very good season when at Donny which he will hopefully be able to replicate this season with us. 4 year contract and spending well over a million for him shows great intentions and that the Brown money will go back in to the squad. Cauley in my opinion as I have said a few times is our best striker since Ashley Ward. Now his future is settled he can get back to concentrating on getting lots of goals. It's probably got a release clause that can be activated but whatever the price will mean we don't get robbed as badly as Cardiff thought they could with their paltry two million offer. Having back Matty James is showing good ambition too. He's had bad luck with injuries but when he was with us the first time we kept him fit so hopefully he will stay that way again. The signings and deals today have given us many more options. We can now for example put James where Mowatt plays, move Alex further up the field and put Kane where Cauley has been so he can be more central. Well done to all those involved in making the three deals happen.
You can pack that in! This forum's for pissing, moaning and complaining about anything and everything! Shame on you.
Three huge signings. They feel very un-spreadsheet too which is refreshing. And in the case of James, a loan of an experienced competitor who knows the club and won't make us money from sell-ons but will make a huge difference around the place. Lessons learned, I hope. Still, we're short. It has to be said. The left back position and wingers and forwards are thin on the ground. We still haven't got the physical presence up front that Struber so desperately wanted and I think we all agree we've been missing for 12 months. So good work today but it's still been an average window overall. Now attentions must turn to getting a manager who can work with these lads and get the best of them. I'd love us to continue the change in tact and get someone in who knows the league and doesn't have to uproot themselves in the middle of pandemic/Brexit uncertainty in the vein of the two incoming players today.
I must admit I have been a critic of the board recently. but I am pleasantly surprised by the events of today. well done the board. some faith has been restored!
The board are trying to build something. To go forwards, some players do need to leave. As you say, we appear to have reinvested the money from Brown, in Kane. Progress is slow, but we've moved away in large from loan signings and 2 year contracts, to 3 and 4 year deals. Let's not forget either that, Jordan Williams, Jack Walton and Elliott Simoes have signed new deals too. It's been a long time since we had so many first team players renew deals, especially someone as influential as Woodrow. We might not finish in the top half this year, however the core of the squad is still well under contract again this time next season (barring the odd exception), so we can continue to build again. I firmly believe we're now past the stage of a mass exodus every summer, where we lose 4 or 5 first team regulars. There are still a few concerning issues though I admit. We need a long term head coach. We need to resolve the ground ownership issue. As supporters, we do need to see a bit more for what we have paid as well in terms of our season ticket. It's been an encouraging day though, and the season is still in its infancy. 3 points tomorrow will do nicely.
Got to say it's a good days work today. I feel a lot better about things now. Best signing is Woodrow as I was concerned he wanted out after not being suited to Struber's post lockdown system. Just need him scoring goals again now. Woodrow and Chaplin got double digits last season and there's no reason why they can't do it again this season. James is quality, and Kane could be a right find if we can get him firing in the Championship Well done to the board though as well. Gone are the doubts about selling our best players for a pittance
Nice to see them spending the Brown money unless they go back to Liverpool and ask if we can have him cheaper or hold back on the final payment when its due.
We’re never going to be 100% happy let’s be honest, i still would’ve liked a lb at least plus a striker maybe. But I have to give them praise today, they’ve shocked me and fair play to them. Gained abit of respect back from a large percentage of the fan base today. (Only a little may I add). Huge credit today, however, it doesn’t last long if you run a football club. Now pull your finger out and make a solid appointment regarding the head coach. Let’s finally kick off this season.
It's a good last day but not a great last day we still haven't a fit left back in the squad and Moores replacement still hasn't managed to find Grove Street on his sat nav. Woodrow signing the new contract is a bonus I for one didn't see coming.
We have also lost only one major asset this transfer window which was Jacob Brown. For our season pass prices and club stature trying to compete at this level I think most of us can accept that to balance the books. It's when 2-3 go in quick succession that ruins what whoever the head coach is at the time is trying to build.
It seems to me that there are a few who wanted to downplay Woodrow's ability who now want to celebrate the fact that we've extended his contract. I'm pleased - I've always rated him. But where are the other incomings at in terms of their careers? I'm left wondering: what is the owners' (or the club's) net outlay on this window?
Big critic of the board and my view was that Alex and Cauley were gone. So thank you for surprising me. You've still got quite a bit of ground to make up mind.
TBF, with the midfielders signed today, we can push Woodrow back up and provide them the service. Murray mentioned it - we need the strikers to concentrate on being in the box, and let the midfield create for them. They’ve spent too much time trying to create for themselves recently. As for a big option up front - Halme can do that. The opposition know nothing about him, and it has worked well.
