From watching on TV, it has seemed to me that we've been exceptional at weaving our way forward from the back, into midfield and through, not giving the other side a kick, until we get to their end when we have numerous pathetic ways to contrive not to score. Meanwhile the defence has mended the majority of the leaks at the back. The obvious answer to this state of affairs is thus to get more midfielders in. Admittedly this season the midfield has been almost as bad as the attack. Can't see how this window merits more than a 5, with Brown gone.
I’m not sure we did need a left back. I know it’s probably none of their starting positions but Jordan Williams and Clarke Oduor can both play there. Brittain could probably fill in and if we are still playing 5-3-2/3-5-2 then Styles has also played there before. Striker wise, I’d say we probably needed a more physical one and that’s the disappointment for me. We still have 4 strikers for 2 positions though. Along with Simoes who could probably fill in up there too.
We haven’t signed the main priority which is massively disappointing! Some good potential so I’m gonna get splinters in mi aris and go 5
7/10 would have liked another Forward who offered something different. Kane and James good signings. Not replaced Browns pace or having a proper number 9
We seem to have followed our usual pattern anyway. Don't get me wrong I'm encouraged by the two we have brought in today and Woodrow staying.
8/10 literally only improved with a big striker, perfect otherwise. Could have done with moved some deadwood on too
6/10 two good midfield signings but failed to strengthen up front or at full back. Really good midfield signings though tbf.
5. Sorry to seem negative but I struggle to see any 2 of Woodrow, Chaplin & Schmidt form an effective partnership. I think signing a forward who can give us an outlet was the number one priority & I also wanted a left back in. I think James, Helik & Kane are all good signings so I can’t criticise the quality of the recruitment but I think we should’ve addressed the issues above for me to be rating it higher. Others may disagree but I would’ve been happier if we’d sold one of Woodrow, Chaplin & Schmidt & brought another forward in than Woodrow signing a new deal.
9, maybe we don't need another striker now we have a midfield that can create and score goals, which has been really lacking for a long time. I hope now the strikers we have already can start banging em in and midfield chipping in too
Pleased with what we've done today. Must now have one of the best midfields in the division.? I wonder if Murray was consulted over Kane and James as he's got to accommodate them in the team. If he plays Woodrow where he should be played, not too disappointed in not getting an additional front man. Always providing we can avoid serious injuries, with what we've already got plus some of the fringe players we might just have enough. Would have liked to have seen us sign James until the end of the season instead of three months, but let's wait and see if the opportunity arises to extend come January. See Jordan Green has also returned from his loan at Southend. Twisted ankle apparently.
It's hard to rate really. Midfield has definitely been improved, no doubt about that at all. Matty James is an excellent signing and Herbie kane is exciting too. However we still haven't signed a striker so have no options up front, have lost a centre back, signed no left back and are arguably weaker at right back too.
8/10 for me. Be interesting to see if there's any opportunity to keep Matty James beyond the 3 months - but very pleased about selling the dream to Cauley and Herbie....
7/10 I think we have strengthened in the midfield better than I expected, but both signings should be first team starters so all good. Another central defender and some potential players that will push the squad. But I still think we are weak at right back in both first team quality and in squad depth. This for me was essential and even more so with Ludewig leaving. We have lost 2 first team regulars down the right so I’m not sure we have strengthened at all there. I also think another more physical forward or wide attacking player would have helped.
Mine are double glazed, I'd rate them about 7/10 but the triple glazed ones are even better apparently.
7/10 Yesterday's deals certainly raised that score to a lot higher than it would have been. I was genuinely shocked that Woodrow signed a new deal and that finally could be a sign of intent that we are ready to start paying Championship level wages. The situation with the pandemic has of course heavily influenced this, as opportunities elsewhere and the chance for players to make the big wage jumps (e.g. Winnall to Wednesday style) are now somewhat limited. If we can get Mowatt to also sign a new deal and bridge the so called 'miles apart' gap that was mentioned in the media recently then we really could be getting somewhere and it would be a genuine sign of intent that the club wants to try and stabilise at this level. I don't think Kane or James will have come cheap wages wise either so their signings also represent positive signs.
Matty James is a good (potentially great) signing so long as there is a mutual intention to extend it beyond the initial 3 months. Other than that I don't see why people are handing out 8s and 9s. Would I rather have signed Kane or kept Brown? Brown. Would I rather have signed Brittain or kept Ludewig? Ludewig Helik might be an upgrade on Bambo, early days Too early to pass judgment on the fridge. No target man, no wing back.
7/10 for me - kept Mowatt and I woodrow, lost Brown, signed decent midfielders, just needed a striker to take it to 8 or 9.
