Is it just me or they just the most incredibly frustrating group of people to deal with? I'm surprised anyone ever manages to buy and sell a house. Just getting them all to speak to each other seems like a full time job. And you have to pay for this privilege.
Just two weeks into the house move and dare I say it not had an issue yet. Chain of 5 and we are right in the middle. I’m expecting frustration and despair from the whole process so anything less than this will be a bonus.
Everyone is ready to go in our chain. But getting the solicitors to confirm this has been dragging on since the middle of last week. Its pathetic.
Exactly this. I sold my house a couple of years ago when I retired and I actually phoned up my conveyancer on one Monday morning to find out what was happening as I hadn't heard anything for a while. She emailed me back the same afternoon to say she hadn't heard from the buyers solicitors regarding a date for exchanging contracts yet. On the same Wednesday morning I get a call from my estate agents saying that I am holding up the process as I haven't agreed a date to exchange contracts! You can't make it up lol So I spend the day doing what my conveyancer should have done and get all parties to agree on a formal date to exchange contracts. Then I have to pay someone else for the privilege taking the credit for the work I have just done, unbelievable!
Sounds exactly like what I've done that. I've been ringing around everyone to sort it and they haven't got the decency to reply to emails. Mine actually feels reasonably proactive but the whole process is ridiculous.
My last house move 23 years ago was just the same. I seemed to make all the calls and do all the pushing of various parties so get the move through. I was hoping now in the age of electronic communication it might be a little better. But I’m not very hopeful.
It isn't any better at all, it still takes far too long to get this done than it should do. It's just to justify there extortionate fees basically
I think it's probably because each solicitor is overseeing a team of trainees/paralegals who do a lot of the donkey work, so whilst the solicitor may be your contact, they probably aren't that focused or knowledgeable on your particular transaction at any given time.
Well I’ve now got the e mails of three WB employees so they’ll all be copied in when the time comes. They’ll be sick of me by the time all is finished- probably next March!!
I would strongly advise against doing it yourself, just so that if there's a **** up you have someone you can sue.
Bit late now! In fairness mine has been great. It's just all these delays waiting for responses that are driving me mad.
Of late, some old friends and a couple of former colleagues have either moved to live elsewhere outside of Yorkshire, or moved to a bungalow. Detect quite a bit of frustration around the performance of Purple Bricks. Main criticism appears to be that you end up doing most of the process yourself. Never used them but wondered if anyone on the BBS has, what was your experience.?
My house buy nearly fell through because there was no planning permission for the kitchen extension it had. I rang the council and they said the planning permission was there but the solicitors hadn't asked for it. Why was I paying them?
Exactly this. It does look on the face of it an extortionate fee, and they do take their time. BUT if something goes wrong, you can complain. If you do it yourself then you'll be culpable
In exactly the same boat myself right now. Everyone in the chain seems to think we're completing on Nov 6 but I've had nothing of note from my solicitor since an email exchange on Aug 3rd where he confirmed that he understood that my wife lives in France and that it'll take at least a week even with priority FedEx to get documents to her, signed and returned. I've given up chasing it now for the good of my mental health. I've got his assurances in writing, if it gets delayed it's on him.
