Why did they call it Scotch tape? Any ideas?

I think I remember my Nan calling sellotape as Scotch tape as well when I were a nipper

Not so much the advert but the jingle at the end reminds me of happy times as a kid

Every time I hear it I'm transported back in time to our home at the time in Pye Avenue down Darfield road Cudworth ....night time Snow up to the waist outside ...Christmas tree flashing away....the coal fire burning a feeling of complete happiness and contentment...snug as a bug in a rug not a care in the world oblivious to real life and its harshness lol....
