What bright spark thought it would be a good idea to hijack a tanker within striking distance of where the SBS are based? This won't end well for them if they resist.
Cos I've trained down there, and had the pleasure of watching them in action on a training operation. Mightly impressive and god damn scary how good they are. Once the night falls, this will end quickly.
The SBS never made any secret of their location. When I used my cousins beach hut at Sandbanks in Poole Dorset, they used to openly use the stretch of sea between Sandbanks and Brownsea Island for their training excercises. My cousin who lives down that way, was considering buying a caravan on the Rockley Park Holiday Park as an extra source of income and I accompanied him when he went to have a look round and the Marines ( SBS) HQ was in the next field to the holiday park. Similar case to the SAS. When I worked, I had a supplier of plastic bag in Hereford. We used to do an annual quality audit with West Yorkshire Trading Standards and the firm used to take us for lunch in a pub on the outskirts of the town. It was next door to the SAS barracks. You would go in there and quite openly there were lads with beards and pony tails playing cards, pool whilst having a pint. The landlord of the pub told us that they were serving members of the SAS, which judging by their appearance came as a surprise.
Been lucky to lead a very varied life and met plenty of very interesting people. Also very lucky to have a good memory.
Credenhill is the village and the barracks used to be RAF Hereford. I had several detachments there during my RAF career. There used to be a massive training set up there for clerks, suppliers and the catering trades as well as an apprentice training school. Happy days, lovely location. Nice that the pongos took it over when we moved out.
Hampshire police have requested Military Assistance to resolve the incident. The blokes in the black fatigues will be dropping in to welcome the stowaways, hijackers or whatever they are to the uk. Like the OP said not a very bright place to try and seize an oil tanker.
New pants all round for the hijackers, looks like another brilliant operation carried out to perfection. Wonder if it was related to the growing unrest in Nigeria. They need to be thankful that our lads don't shoot unless they have to.
my uncle went to the moon with Neil Armstrong, a few days later we saw him in the local Esso station eating a cheeky Ginsters. I was surprised because he didn't have his moon boots on.
If only we’d lay ferries on for military aged men to come here and claim asylum they wouldn't need to hijack oil tankers. Come on Priti there must be plenty of cruise ships parked up doing nowt.
I wonder how many rounds would have been fired if a SEAL team had been sent in (or am I doing the American forces a disservice?) If they are anything like US police or SWAT teams half the Ngerians would probably be dead.
