BLM now a political party No more kneeling in sport as they cant support a political organisation surely well footy cant
Bad move by them, they need to remain neutral politically. They need to build bridges and lobby across parties. Obviously some parties will be more open to them and responsive. It's like Greenpeace we know they're close to the Green Party for obvious reasons but they know they need to work cross party to get traction on issues.
No skin off your nose if players kneel in support of their fellow black players surely? I really don't see the issue!
They were always a political movement with stated economic aims - you only had to look at their online manifesto - and I said as much on here back when everyone was advertising for them on sports occasions I never understood why it was allowed at football games and why people on TV wore badges - I totally believe in racial equality and get that for too long in some areas of life black people have been disadvantaged, but the biggest discrimination in this country is economic, not racial.
You wouldn’t catch me taking the knee on a football field, I know that! Not unless there was some fkr to pull me up afterwards
I think a minority are worried about them getting too "uppity", they should sit back down and be quiet now they've had their little protest.
It’s a bit like clapping for the NHS. A nice way of showing support at the beginning, but ultimately an empty gesture that glosses over the fact not enough is being done to address the real issue.
I'd just rather them continue lobbying hard raising awareness and to then diversify to issues around generally inequality. Bring everyone to the table and be a voice for everyone without losing their core message. They could then endorse politicians and parties both locally and nationally. I've a funny feeling we're going to need to build plenty of coalitions over the next 4 years to fight many issues on many fronts.
There's a hell of a lot of misinformation about what BLM is. It's not an organisation, whether there's an organisation named the same thing is completely besides the point. There's no 'leader', no 'them'. It's a movement, not an organisation.
BLM in the UK was never about equality, it was always political and was just using the name to get what it wanted.
That's the thing though. In the UK it is an organisation. It's a bencom. it's sad because while you know my views on the whole thing there's no doubt that the intentions are good but then you have dickheads trying to hijack it for their own means over here.
