19 games I think.. I haven't seen anyone who should strike fear into us tbh..

We were so comfortable against Reading until the 2 red cards and they are lauding it at the top of the league.

Keep out heads screwed on and don't get complacent and IMO we can be comfortably mid table at the run in. Mid season transfer window will be important to ensure the core of the team is not shattered and hopefully we can just strengthen and move on a couple of fringe players not getting game time.

Encouraging signs so far this season, with players starting to settle at this level and improving game by game. New head coach looks to have developed an immediate rapport with the players and his enthusiasm is obvious, to add to it. Kudos to the board on his appointment the bit we have seen.

Looking forward to each match, shame we can't be there in person but it is what it is..

    COYR..

I personally thought we benefited a lot from games being behind closed doors last season. I still think we are

Well said MDG, although I said last season there was nothing to fear and look how that turned out lol :)

As you quite rightly put it's early days yet, both for the upcoming season and for the tenure of Valerien Ismael. The signs are very encouraging, and I hope we can build on the positivity.

A few players seem to have that extra spring in their step. ( since struber left) Woodrow extension. Mowatt looking as though a deal could be reached. (coincidence or not?) Styles a first choice. Improved all round performances. Some encouraging signings already made and hitting the ground running. Thought Miller had a good cameo appearance Controlled the ball well, missed a good chance. ( But those with much longer game time are more guilty of that offence) Signs as you say are promising.
Hope we haven’t put mockers on.

Two wins and all of a sudden we’re a comfortably mid-table side.

It’s still going to be tough. We don’t score enough, and are still prone to defensive gaffs. If Woodrow doesn’t return soon then the next few games could be very lean indeed.

This season, perhaps more than any other, is going to be about squads. With so little time between games players are getting injured more at most clubs and we will find it tough if key players like Woodrow are out (but then so will others). That might mean clubs are more reluctant to let players go out on loan in January. If Woodrow and Jordan Williams are back after the international break that will be a big boost. I wonder if they will re-think the number of substitutes again.

Think Murray and other coaches and club staff, who held things together between Head Coaches deserve something credit too.

So where do you see us sitting on the performances so far. I don’t think anyone is under the elusion it’s not going to be tough. The signs are encouraging, no more, no less.

At the start of the season I predicted 12th place. I can't see any reasons not to stick to that prediction now. It'll be tough, and we need to continue with the positivity of the last few weeks (ironically since Struber left) but I'm going to stick to it :)

I try not to predict mate. But I am a more glass half full than half empty. Surely optimism is better than a consistent pessimism.

I’d say if we are lucky with injuries we could finish in 18th. If not we will struggle.

Me too HF, I'm usually an optimistic type, glass half full guy. I do the predictions just for a bit of fun, but the last time I predicted us to finish so high was in 2013/4 season and look how that turned out lol :)

However, this time around we have a better squad, with younger hungrier players out to prove something. I am confident as I can be that this seasons future is bright

Clearly we are in better shape than we were this time last season. The addition of Helik and Solbauer to the centre of defence is a significant improvement and Mads has improved significantly. We have a better keeper, Brittain looks good and Jordan Williams has also improved with a years championship experience
The same goes for Midfield with James and Kane coming in and Styles and Palmer coming through
Its only up front where we are no better than last season - arguably worse as Frieser hasnt yet proved himself to be an improvement on Brown and our other strikers havent improved in the way some of the youngsters in midfield and at the back have

A lot depends on injuries as we don't have much strength in depth - central midfield apart. With Woodrow Williamsx2 and Brittain out we are woefully short of options should anyone else pick up an injury or suspension. And with games coming thick and fast we are going to lose players for periods and that is where we may well struggle

We also benefited from new manager bounce somewhat - it was a great performance against Watford but I dont know if we can expect that level every game. If we can keep key players fit top half is not out of the question but long term injuries to key players and we could well be looking down rather than up again. 40 more points needed from 37 games maybe less as I cant see Wednesday or Wycombe getting to 50 points so it only need one other to have a poor season

After 9 games last season, Charlton had 17 points and Hull similarly had 10 points, so a bit too early to celebrate surely.

When Hull won on New Years Day 2020, they were only 2 points behind the playoff spots with 39 points. They went on to only gain 6 points in the final 20 games to finish last.

I'd have loved to have seen Brown play wide in the front 3 in this 3-4-3 system of Valerien. I think he'd have been in his element and would have been very much a great attacking threat

I agree with this, mainly because we miss loads of chances. If we become more efficient at finishing I'd be more confident that we'll have a dull season. As things stand, I'm under no illusions that we're not in a relegation scrap.

    Edit: added 'not' in there.

As long as he gave it to someone who could finish when he got near the box.

He generally did though SD, he got the most assists for the team since he replace Potts in January 2019. But I meant that he would fit into the system with his tireless energy to get up and down the pitch.
