Looks like val is a yes man the board have sold him that what we got is good enough to keep us up..

BARNSLEY head coach Valerien Ismael says that the imminent return of Cauley Woodrow and Victor Adeboyejo's re-introduction to the first-team squad is likely to put the club's search for another striking option on hold for the time being.

    Same old story different manager...

So we're not looking at strikers until January. I'll let you tell Valerien he's a Yes man then. Let me know when you're going to do it and I'll come down to watch. Should be good that :);)

He's not a yes man just because he doesn't want to look at a free agent when we're eight weeks away from the transfer window.

Tbh , I think I would rather get to the next window and hopefully sign someone decent than snatch at a striker just because he is currently unemployed

Free Agents 2 months into a season are free agents for a reason. We could get lucky but then again..

I don't believe he's in isolation DT. If you think about the role of a traditional team manager, he comes in
and given a say over his coaching team and is presented with a headline budget to buy players. He
also has full responsibility for coaching and training and it is he, who recommends to the board who should
    be sold.

Compare that to our model. We appoint a coach and apart from a few exceptions he's expected to work
with a group of existing coaches and players and has full responsibility in their coaching and advancement.
In the majority of cases, the action of bringing players in is the responsibility of a member of the board and
any player being sold is done as a result of agreement of the board.

Probably the only possibility of answering "yes" to any question is " are you happy with the squad that you've
got" or " are you confident you can mould the squad that you've inherited into a team capable of surviving in the Championship".

When they were appointed, probably both Daniel and Gerhard answered yes to those questions and that is
why it didn't go down too well when they both started canvassing for extra strength up front. The coaching
role at Barnsley FC is slightly unique in that it's pretty pointless complaining once you are in the job. You
would think that the modus operandi would be fully explained at the interview stage and if doubts did exist
that was the time to raise them.

Our model has involved bringing in your own coaching team and own players for the last two managers, and coaching staff for the current one because he can't sign players right now.

Our churn of coaching staff in recent years has been pretty incredible really.

He’s not a yes man. If the board says no, Val says no!

Because he's looked at the free agent list and said 'no thanks'?

I know eight weeks away from the next transfer window doesn’t sound a long time, but it’s the amount of games that we will have played in that length of time, it could possibly be a minimum of 12 games with the current strike force we have, that’s if they all stay fit.
    That is the worry

But if there's nobody on the free agent list you want, and you've assessed the squad yourself, why is him not wanting to sign someone been cast as a negative?

That someone needs to be signed. Integrated. Brought up to match fitness. They'll likely only be available for 4-6 weeks anyway. Does that free agent boost our chances if it's at the expense of a player the new Head Coach actually wants and has identified in January?

To be fair I'm glad we've not panicked and signed a free agent. They very rarely work.

But I'm annoyed that we didn't sign adequate depth up front in the previous transfer window.

    Or the previous one.

    Or the one before that.

Agree LTT. That is why I used the phrase " apart from a few exceptions". I included both Daniel
and Gerhard in that category. In fact, thinking about it, of all our recent appointments, probably
Gerhard was the most privelidged with regards to probably being consulted before appointments
    and signings were made.

If the choice is do you want someone now but you then cant have anything more in January then I can see why he's prepared to wait.

I’m not saying that, all I’m saying is there’s going to be a lot of games played in the eight weeks before the next transfer window, so that should give the board enough time to find & sign a on the 1st of January, but as you & know that won’t happen.

Agree on that front. We MUST have our January targets lined up now.

:confused: What. Obviously your knowledge of free agents is superior to Vals. Get on the blower and offer him your tips. I’m sure he’ll take your advice.

He said on one of his very first interviews when asked about a free agent, that he wasn’t convinced as they would take too long to get up-to match fitness. That suggests to me as you say he looked at options and decided he wanted to wait until Jan.

I think it’s more than likely the plan sounds better than the reality. “We will reinvest money back into the team.” Sadly the part that gets missed is that this will be a on player from an inferior league/nation etc.
