I think it was a well taken goal and full credit to Chaplin for being sharp as a razor.

I also think that had the opposition scored it, it would have been a weak effort on target and a lambasting for Jack Walton.

    :)

His first touch was sublime. He pushed it first time into the open space in front of himself. Just weighted perfectly so that when he caught up with it, it was time to strike it.

Sublime? At this rate it's going to beat Mowatt's from last week and get voted goal of the season. :D

He's been brilliant again since Ismael came in. Never stops running, does the dirty work, always a threat, and has goals in him. He had a poor start to the season but I really don't think there's much for fans to grumble about regarding his time with us so far.

The funniest thing about that goal is somebody on the video saying "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhhhhh what's he done?" when the keeper misplaced his pass :D

He took it really well. I think he was badly maligned after Cardiff, where balls were hoofed in his direction & to be fair he did OK with a few. He was sharp & took his chance really well. Derby were on top & a few great saves by Jack Walton kept us in the game.

We won dirty in a way. Victor's goal was sublime. I pray to Ronnie Glavin that he has another 14 of those at least in the tank this season.

Great finish, but just because he scored doesn't mean it was the right choice. Let's say I offer you a deal - I write down a number between 1 and 100, if you guess it you win a fiver, if you don't you give me a fiver.

If you go for it and win that doesn't mean it was a good decision.

The funny thing is when he shoots the keeper is not back in his goal so it's great presence of mind to shoot to the far post if it was indeed intentional.

I assume it is 'fair use' to post a screenshot of a YouTube clip on here. If not I guess I'm wearing the teddy bear suit and heading to Iggy Pop's dressing room.

I don't really understand that reaction - I was just pointing out that it's overly simplistic to say he made the "right" decision in shooting because he scored. It can still have been the worse of the 2 options.

It was the right decision for him because it was all in his hands. ( or feet!)

He was aiming for 20ft wide and miss hit it. Mowatt has miss hit a few when aiming for row z.

There was plenty that could go wrong with him squaring it. There was a defender between Chaplin and Woodrow, Woodrow was behind Chaplin and it would’ve given the keeper time to get into position.

Not sure many forwards would square it from that position unless they had a lack of confidence

It's quite an interesting philosophical point. It's akin to the chess player who makes complicating but ultimately sub-optimal moves, but it's enough to confuse his opponent into slipping up. Or maybe I'm just talking ******....

It wasn't a 1 in a 100 shot though, it was on open net. If you're a striker you have a shot towards an empty net surely. Or are you telling me that the strikers shouldn't shoot now?

Not necessarily, I just think that if he's in that spot 1,000 times and shoots half and squares it half we end up with more goals from him squaring than shooting.

OK, I'll rephrase it - how many strikers are going to pass the ball when they have a shot towards an empty goal. I'll bet it's a very low percentage, probably zero
