Where we won 2-1 with Agnew scoring a belter past Peter Shilton.

One of my all time favourite away days that. It was on same day that the miners marched back to work after the strike. Ended up being on a Monday night after originally being postponed at Saturday.
Obviously saw the goals live but have never seen any camera footage since. Didn’t Southampton take an early lead before we scored 2 quick goals to take lead? Gordon Owen netted a pen and Agnew with a stunning volley. Can’t remember which way round the goals were though....?

Somehow, my parents managed to get us out of school to see that game. Didn't get home til 3-4am ish. Can't ever remember seeing any highlights or goals. Remember Peter Shilton getting some right hammer from the Barnsley fans. Amazing turnout for a Monday night. Wasn't their some story about John Peel, Liverpool fan and Radio DJ booking himself a gig in Southampton so he could go and watch Liverpool in the next round? Oops.

Remember it well- it had been frozen off for weeks and weeks. Having lived on the IoW for years we drew them just weeks i had moved back to South Yorkshire. Fortunately Alan Bloore had moved back north too and provided a lift down. It was a late ‘un but well worth it!

I remember seeing the goals on the telly at the time but never seen them since.

A game I'd like to see is the Enfield replay at White Hart lane, I went with a few friends from Cambridge where I was working, one was a Southampton fan the other Man U and they were both impressed by the support, I think there were 10,000 Reds that night and WHL was full on 3 sides, the other side was being rebuilt. I recall that Glav got 2, one being a fine strike from 25 yards.

I was at that Southampton cup tie, superb away following for a midweek game jam packed into that open away end. I remember at the end the Saints fans came on the pitch and coined us.

It was a great night out - Ron Futcher gave their centre halves, one of whom was John Bond's son, absolute nightmares. I was always confident of the penalty going in. Peter Shilton was one of the greatest keepers ever, but on penalties he was terrible. I never understood why England never put a specialist penalty keeper in when it was obvious their match was going to pens. Ipswich's goalie Paul Cooper was brilliant at saving spot kicks.

What a night, Miners went back the next day Tuesday. I was a miner and mates paid for me if I agreed to drive a minibus down. I was returning the hire van back to Birdwell van Hire and I got caught in the Barrow miners March back from Worsbro Miners Welfare up the hill.
Joe Jordan was allowed to commit assault and battery all game on a very young and inexperienced Nicky Law. Nicky came off the pitch bloodied and battered but he had done his job exceptionally well. Southampton fans ran on the pitch towards us throwing coins and gesturing, they looked surprised when no one actually run and many were just picking the coins up and asking for more. Great memories in difficult times

Enfield goals are at then of this. I did this before I could edit out crap bits so stick with it when it goes a bit wobbly.
As for Southampton goals as far as I'm aware no footage exists Calendar showed black & white stills!

kendraytyke - do you have the Ian Banks goal in the 1-0 win v Wednesday on 22/09/81? Free kick from 35 yards wasn't it? Would love to see that one again!

Sadly, prior to the start of the Premier League, the vast majority of matches had no television coverage whatsoever.

I was at the Dell that night, with the current Mrs. Didcot Red. I had bought the tickets for the original date but as people have stated there were postponements because of snowy weather, so we had to get baby sitters and time off work to make the evening kick off. It was worth it though.

The reward was a home tie against the mighty Liverpool, and sadly we were well beaten in a game that was televised live on a Sunday afternoon, in front of a commendable crowd of almost 20,000, considering the strike had only just ended and it was live on TV.
