Heart attack in previous week may be the cause? but he tested positive so it will be on the certificate.
Grew up close to him. Used to sup in the pub (no longer a pub) where he'd go for a quiet pint at last orders, after performing some of his deeds. Hope he rots for eternity.
The fact that he was discharged from hospital after heart issues (not a heart attack) he then got COVID, refused medical treatment and his lungs collapsed (which isn’t connected to heart attacks) I think it’s pretty safe to say he’s died of COVID.
Fair enough This is the news article on Sky https://news.sky.com/story/yorkshir...cliffe-has-died-sky-news-understands-12131042
So did you actually meet him or just drink in the same pub? Such a crazy and twisted individual. So glad his time inside was not a pleasant experience.
Yes, a Clayton man, Britain's last hangman. Seen some characters has Clayton for a small place. Albert, Sutcliffe, Whitey, me.....
No, he is a few years older than me. He was banged up in 81, I started going in the Quarry under age in probs 83. Strangely, his brother lives in Bingley where I now live. He's a bit of a wierdo too, though I guess he didn't have the easiest of upbringings.
Hope it brings some closure to his victims' families. He went on trial the day I was born so I wasn't alive when he was out but must've been terrifying for women living in that area at the time.
Pierrepoint retired in 1956,...the last two executions were carried out simultaneously but in different prisons in 1964, one by a Robert Stewart and one by Harry Allen...the comedy actress Fiona Allen is Harry's Granddaughter.
You are correct. i think Albert took the role really personally - he thought it was his God-given vocation and he was carrying on a family tradition. He self-titled himself Britain's last executioner, Britain's best, etc, etc with Trump-like self-pride. He was very bitter that the Home Office retired him off as he thought it was a dedicated position that shouldn't be retired. He was still campaigning to get himself re-appointed in the 80's, in case hanging was re-introduced. You are right to correct me, thanks.
