I haven't been in to town for a few weeks and I'm unlikely to got back until at least 2nd December. As the construction workers locked down or do they continue?
I haven't been in town for a few weeks myself, but construction (in general) has been told they can continue during lockdown this time haven't they? Not sure how that affects the town centre though
That's been the case, I'm hoping for a nice surprise next time I'm there. And hopefully the drainage system has been moved and Kendray Street may re-open. Though at least it's closed while we can't go to the football.
I expected that to happen weeks/months ago? I thought the reason was so that lorries could come up Midland Street and turn left easier than is currently possible but Midland St has been two way for ages now so wonder if it was still happening?
I think it’s coming on great and will be a town I’m proud of. ( already am by the way) The mixture of shops. leisure and entertainment venues will match any of the best towns of our size. Donny moved forward years ago and benefited. Rotherham the layout of the town doesn’t endear itself for me. Sheffield too spread out. But great venues and eateries. Screwed up the markets. Meadowhall o’reight to visit shops that don’t exist in tarn so serves a purpose. Really looking forward to the glassworks etc being up and running. C’MON TARN. get behind it. I don’t mind the colour at all having seen it develop over the last few weeks and seeing the car park getting cladded, the opening at side of JD sports. Looking across at the entertainment venue. Would love to see the civic expand enough to make it a bigger venue for the arts. To attract bigger productions. 2/400 not enough. The lamproom and Birdwell theatre can cater for those lower figures. As a fan of theatre I would love to see bigger bands, musical productions in tarn instead of spending my dosh outside.
I'd really like to see the shops down the lane near JD Sports open - and I hope Smiths is one of them. I really also hope that the council will do something for small independents with cheap rents and encourage them to come to town and into the market. The market could be double the size if the lowered the rents. It would be thriving.
They continue, but not in the same numbers, but that’s probably because of the groundwork etc all being completed
Sports Direct are moving out of there. They're taking a unit in the new development so I'm not sure what the fate of the building will be after they've moved out. With TK Maxx moving out of the Alhambra Centre to another of the new units we're simply moving existing retailers around.
Yeah, I woke up this morning, looked at the league tables, and thought, “that doesn’t look too bad...now I’m stuck, what can I have a moan about? Well, it’s the weekend, and I’m having a curry tonight, so that’s all good.... got a free day to do what I like ... blimey, I’m really stuck here ... that’s it! I’ve got it! I’ll moan about some building project. That will make me feel much better.”
What I can’t understand is that they’ve put some really nice stone paving down in the precinct but then some utility company has come along, dug it up and just put tarmac patches down. It looks bloody awful. My guess is that some of the utility workers now have lovely patios though.
So much negativity mate. Does my head in. I’m coming up 64. Sick to the back teeth of my age group and over bellyaching. Would like to keep ugly old run down buildings. I’m not against our Heritage but confine some of it to museums. Some fantastic old buildings need care and attention. Some want knocking down. Our town hall I would argue one of the best in the country.
Some Utility companies don’t reinstate to original. Should be made to do so if the damage has been caused by them.
I was talking to one of the guys on site a few weeks ago. And I was surprised to hear him say that it will hopefully be finished by NEXT SEPTEMBER !!! But it’s looking brilliant. The new town square is going to be a nice place.
We have some fine architecture in our town centre. Most of the buildings on Eldon Street and Regents Street are wondrous to look at. I just hope the new buildings will be able to blend in
Prince Charles I think it was. Loves the old concrete structures and lauded the architects. Not my cup of tea. But served a purpose at the time.
