Sunderland doing their infamous bottling of their game in hand.

I’m not at all surprised. He scored a shedload of goals for Donny in League One, that’s why we bought him.

I hope we ‘retain an interest’.

In fairness the lad was 1-3 in Lg1 and 1-4 for Hull in Championship.
I still think there’s a player in there, but it just didn’t work out for him here.

At 21 years of age, signed on a 4 year contract you would have thought he'd have been given more than half a season. For whatever reason it doesn't look like it was footballing reasons he was let go, which is disappointing really considering the quality of our forward options at the moment.

I'd heard from Leeds fans when we signed him that his attitude was poor. Maybe he wasn't great to have in the dressing room.

I've no doubt he's a talented player, but if for us, that was at the expense of others, then we were right to get rid.

He didnt get a great run of starts here either, not like say ritzmaier where he was starting week in week out even though he was ****. I did hear wilks said to stendel at the time he should be starting. Like already said hope we have a sell on.

He's better than a lot of our attacking options we have.

His stats are actually remarkable similar to Ritz:
    Malik
Squad 15, started 8, started 7 out of first 8 games, dropped completely after Stoke game.
    Ritz
    Squad 16, started 13.

So both had same opportunities, difference is Ritz kept his place, Malik didn’t.
Malik also had three coaches who didn’t seem to want to play him.

I’ve no doubt he’s a better player than Luke Thomas.

Unfortunately as limited as Luke Thomas currently seems to be, he works hard unlike Wilks. Maybe his games are numbered now as it seems he’s less involved these days

So after the first 8 games he only started once more, Ritz was starting games after garbage performances and had fans thinking why and contributed nothing in terms of goals or assists.

Like said if you sign a player on a 4 year deal you expect him to be given more time than 6 months. I think something went on behind scenes.

He didn’t start but was involved in every game except one where he was suspended up until Stoke and never played again, so he had lots of chances and played in as many as Ritz and got the same goals return.
I agree you would think someone on a 4 year deal would get longer.
Personally I would suspect it was his attitude as Donny fans used to also complain he was either brilliant or rubbish.

I liked him & thought he had a raw deal with us , however he went to Hull when they were reasonably safe & we were in deep trouble , as it worked out we stayed up & they went down & with no doubt a hefty sell on clause we might just have got this one right , time will tell .

Pretty sure wilks scored at least one league goal for us, I remember him scoring a header v luton ritzmaier never scored.

He did score a few for hull when he moved there in Jan too. If I had to have one back I know which one it would be, not because he is scoring in league one now but it would be wilks. He did look lazy very often but you could see he was talented he could beat a man, decent touch, could win a header etc. I watched ritz for half a season and I still couldnt tell you what his strengths were.

I agree and said in my OP on this thread I still think there’s a player in there, just saying he did have chances (like Ritz).

Wilks scored the consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat to Luton at Oakwell, you're right. However, it was prodded in at the far post in front of the Ponty end, it wasn't a header

Tbh it cheers me up no end, particularly when they think every player and manager should want to walk over hot coals to be at their league 1 club. 3 seasons in and they still think they should be walking the league!
