That was a penalty. A blatant penalty. We didn't deserve anything from the game from our efforts in open play, Brenford were much the better side, but our hard work limited them to very few chances. A couple of good chances at most, which shows we were doing something right, considering how they dominated us. And then we created a chance, that's how it goes when you break down the opposition's attack again and again, you'll always get an opportunity. And we did. We won a penalty. But it wasn't given. The referee wasn't up to the job and should never referee a game again. It's not that he didn't see it, blind monks in Nepal saw it, it's that he chose not to give it. That's not OK.
My thinking behind him not seeing it (which admittedly would be f uckin bizarre given proximity) was that he didn’t wave it away. He just did nothing. It was like he was in a parallel universe. Maybe he was thinking about what he is having for tea when he gets home or shagging his missus but I find it hard to believe he could have actually seen it because 1. There is no logical explanation to refuse a pen if he has. 2. I don’t think referees cheat.
I don't think referees cheat either. Maybe one or two like ever, but no, I don't think they cheat. I think some haven't the strength to give the right decisions though. I think some bottle it.
Maybe mate, would certainly make sense with a crowd, possibly...but then it’s their job, they do it week in week out impassionately / dispassionately (can never remember the difference) so it would be a bit bloody odd if they bottled it from time to time, but then again they’re humans. anyway, it was a shocker that’s for sure, and I’m sticking with my daydreaming about shagging a nice bird theory
It’s weird they give some decisions on players literally falling over and it’s not a foul yet on some decisions they should give they do nothing. Club should be giving some **** to the FA/EFL about it though. Looks like we have had our quota of pens already this season.
Have you met people? There's no way you can have met people. I've been practicing social distancing for like 40 years because it's social distancing from people. I wouldn't trust people to choose the right TV channel. Referees are people and they make refereeing decisions. And people are crap at making decisions. For instance, Chaplin is part of people, and he chose not to pass to a single Barnsley player all game.
I didn't think I'd be able to laugh tonight after that referee, but you've proved me wrong twice in one thread. Thank you.
The two options I have in my mind are that he's biased as we all are in certain situations consciously or unconsciously, or that he's bottled it. If you give a penalty and it's wrong then the goal is definitely on the highlights , is scrutinised. Whereas not giving a penalty means it's a non-event with a short shelf life. I wonder how much weight the managers' match reports have. That ref is a bad joke.
Styles appeared not to be able to stay on his feet at times tonight. There was one occasion that if he hadn't have slipped he might well have scored. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/12141516/barnsley-0-1-brentford
I don't think many referees cheat. I do however believe that Darren bond made a conscious decision not to do the job he was paid for tonight. He'd be getting a one month suspension and sent on a retraining course as he can have absolutely no justification for that decision other than that he simply didn't want to apply the rules as he is paid to do.
I didn't think he was either and protested vehemently. My friend, who kept his powder dry, claiming 'I'm not too sure', he's a bit of a tw@t sometimes, took great delight in being proven "right" despite sitting on the fence, when the replay showed he actually was offside. He even paused the stream the @rsehole.
I don't think referees cheat either...no matter how incompetent they are...but....I remember going to Blackburn a few years ago, the ref gave them everything, sent Mvoto off and it wasn't even a foul, we got our first free kick on 43 minutes. Coming back to the but.....they must have gone in at half time and seen the 16 to 1 foul count and realised that someone in authority might wonder if everything was ok....in the second half he gave us everything...to the point where we were laughing about it, the snag was the game was over at half time.
I think that comes back to the strength of character to do the right thing. BTW I'm not suggesting I would be any better. But I can sort of forgive myself for that because I never tried to be a referee or anything like it. Some people are born to be in these roles, gifted with judgement and justness, with authority and intelligence, and become very good at it. They'll make mistakes, but admit to them, which further improves them. Some people aspire to be like these people (and why wouldn't you, they're inspirational), and take on these roles in the belief that what they do will make them be who they want to be. It won't, it's your character. And then we get what you've just described. It's not malice, they're just not up to it. Unfortunately, there are more of the latter than the former. As cynical as I am, most people are pretty decent and OK. There's exceptions, but most people are. But we're all appalling at judging our own abilities. Almost everyone massively underestimate their virtues and seriously overestimate their inabilities. It's the curse of humanity.
I think we deserved the draw, to be honest. Brentford had a lot of the ball, but didn't do much with it - I think sharing the points would have been just about fair. But yeah, definite penalty.
