Looked like he was trying to smash his way out of this run of poor form with a couple of crackers over the ropes. But you always know his wicket is going any minute and, sure enough, there he goes for 16.

Surprised he was picked for this with the series won. Enjoying the game nonetheless.

I agree with you, need to give someone else a chance now. It does mean that Malan and Bairstow come to the crease quicker though! :)

I'd say he's out of form, but I wouldn't bet against him top scoring in the 50 over format. This is a squad game and he's going to part of the T20 squad going into the world cup. Other than Bairstow opening we've got Banton and Root, no one else has enough experience at this level to make a difference. Hales is also hit and miss.
He's getting his runs at 120-150 strike rate so I can't see how they can drop him. The openers role is to get at the run rate set and create a solid base, the long middle order then get after the fast bowlers.
We're going to come up against many teams that start with spinners at the World Cup, and will possibly go with 3 in a team.
What I'm liking is we're not exposing our spinners too soon. Rashid, Parkinson or Crane don't need to become a cohesive unit until closer to the WC. Teams know we have hitting power and quality bowlers. We need to keep some mystery until it's closer to the tournament.

On current form he wouldn't get in the Hoylandswaine team. Since the walking wicket has departed it's been plain sailing.

What a player Dawid Malan is! Hitting sixes with effortless shots. 67 off 33 balls so far. I wonder how often Yorkshire get to play him next season?

If he can do a job for England, then they'll pay him not to play for Yorkshire. I think that's how it works, isn't it? ;)

To be fair when you're chasing 191 he isn't going to play for himself and try and have a net is he?

It's either get on or get out.

He needs to work on starting against spin though.

99 not out to win the match but what was he doing there? Two runs were on but he stopped at one. Brill stuff but shame to miss the 100

JB should always be in the 1day squad, can bat keep and a cracking fielder too, buttler is their favourite though and always gets the nod if a choice to be made, feckin lancs!

Yes it was and we only needed two of them to knock the runs off (discounting Roy, obviously)

Not his biggest fan! He looked great when he first made the England squad but he’s been poor for some time now. He needs a rest I think and will hopefully come good again next summer
