Don't know what gone wrong with old Cauley , but he is absolutely terrible recently. He looks like he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo at the moment. .....He doesnt play the lone striker role well
Hopefully he'll come good on Saturday and prove me wrong by grabbing a couple of goals...well you can but hope!
If you take out the shots that get blocked before they reach the goal/keeper/by-line then he’s 50/50 for on target/off target. Rang true tonight too. 6 shots. 3 on target. For a crude comparison, Harry Kane has a shot accuracy of 52% in domestic league games this season. You could however argue that he does have much better quality service than Woodrow.
In comparison the massives record signing Jordan Rhodes (£10 million) has a return of 14 goals in 91 games and taking home between £35k-£40k a week. I know who I would rather have pulling on a red shirt.
I think the OP was relating to Woodrows recent displays not overall displays which I agree with. We all know what he is capable of, but he’s been quite frustrating lately. Come on Cauley lad... up to speed on Saturday with a few beauties against dem dee dars. UP THE REDS
I totally agree with the op ...... I think he's got 2 goals from open play , not the best record is it
He was my man of the match last night , he worked his nuts off , hardly any of the ball came to his feet but he continually grafted away with little support , he also scored a goal which should have stood & then held his nerve & did the business
It would have been another yesterday but for that tit of a ref. Stayed cool again despite intimidation.
It seems to me his confidence is a bit low and he's trying too hard when he gets chances from open play. He ends up trying to hit it too hard and loses accuracy or timing of the shot.
Seems both he and Valérien disagree with pretty much everything in this thread. Ismaël said Cauley is confident at the moment and Woodrow himself said he doesn’t care if he gets 15 penalties this season as long as he’s helping the team with goals.
Not having much luck in front of goal from open play, but his build up play is really good. Does an essential job for us. His calmness on penalties has been invaluable to us too - he's won us so many points with these pens already. Cauley is class. The goals will come back soon enough.
I'd have liked Thomas to stay on his feet and the goal stand from open play last night. I think it is affecting him and he tries to hit the ball too hard which is causing him to scuff his efforts.
He missed a couple of glorious chances by scuffing the efforts. His penalty was nearly saved even though iFollow commentary called it emphatic. He could have been through on goal but decided to go to the corner flag and then give up the ball cheaply. But he still scored another goal and we got three points.
His general play seemed pretty good last night. Won more headers than usual, and did a lot of the donkey work that you wouldn't usually associate with him. His finishing in open play is becoming difficult to watch though. The one chance that he had that required a first time, instinctive finish, he put into the bottom corner, unfortunately the ref decided that a goal wasn't enough of an advantage. In this system, he's going to have to improve how he attacks crosses if he's going to get more goals. There's not going to be many through balls threaded to him in the box, his chances are likely to come from Brittain. And he can't expect to be picked out with cut backs all the time.
