I have a Samsung J3, which doubles up as my mp3 player. Until now, I've been happily listening via the Google Play app. It's now been made obsolete, with a message asking me to switch to YouTube Music, which for various reasons, I'm not rushing to do. Can anyone suggest a decent music playing app that would be a suitable alternative? I don't need to stream anything, I just want to listen to my own stuff offline (transferred to my phone from my CD collection) or while I surf the net. Preferably something that will show album covers, and doesn't have any ads. I don't mind paying a small amount, although free would be better, if poss. Thanks. Edit. Forgot to mention that I can keep Google Play going by uninstalling the updates, but in order to keep it going I have to disable auto-updates for everything, then manually update every other app - which is a bit of a pain.
Do you know how to get tracks for free off youtube? Just copy and paste files and go on the first mp3 converter website that pops up in your internet search. When the internet provider gets wise to it use a different one.
I pretty much just use Spotify nowadays, but back when I listened to my own music I used Foobar2000. On the PC it was lightweight and customisable and I loved it - looks like they've got an Android app out now. Like I say, my opinions on it are a good few years out of date, but have a look - I'd definitely recommend it if it's still much the same as it was.
I use spotify to try and identify new bands I might like. Their compilations are quite good. I've just been listening to Jefferson Airplane on psychedelic rock compilation.
I changed to “Samsung Music” app works ok. If it finds other music files that you don’t want it to show with your albums you can hide them when on the folders page.
Yeah, I've discovered loads of new stuff. The only issues I have with it is that it tends to put the same songs in my daily mixes a bit too often, and as far as I can tell there's no way of telling it which artists I don't want it ever to play.
You used to be able to put a block on tracks you didn't want to hear in your daily mix. They still appeared on the list, but were skipped. I've deleted Spotify recently after some updates reduced its functionality (for me, at least). Not sure if that's still the case..?
No i love buying cd's. Once it's out there though. I can't see the harm in downloading it for my own use. I aren't selling it on via pirate market or owt.
Have a look at DoubleTwist, I've been using it on android for a while to sync with itunes on my pc, but it will use any source to sync with I think
I asked the very same question on a hifi forum I frequent. I can't believe the Android OS doesn't include a basic, no-frills local music player. All the 'best of' lists on Google seem to suggest different players, so I put it out there. A few responses, but far & away the simplest I tried was the Onkyo Player from the app store. Tiny advert strap down the bottom of the screen but doesn't interfere with anything. I stuck with it, plays everything.
Been using Spotify since first few weeks it came out when it was invite only. best thing ever for me. Always hated putting music on my phone.
You can 'dislike' songs when you're playing a song or albums radio station, and it will change what music it plays for you next. I'm not sure it works though, as the only band I particularly dislike is the Sex Pistols, and yet, they're always in the play lists and radio stations that Spotify generate.
I use Music Folder Player Free. It allows you to play your music etc from your folders. I have mine specifically in Jazz, Music, Audio books etc and it helps so much to be able to play from your preferred folder rather than chucking hundreds or thousands of individual tracks at you in a huge list all mixed up together. You can then shuffle from the entire folder or from the specific album you are playing. I've been using it for a few years and I hugely recommend it. And it's free.
