Possession/ball retention. And pace. It may sound simple but I have been looking at Wednesday's results under Pulls and their match stats. Very rarely have they had over 40% possession in his 6 games so far plus how they line up with just 1 up top limits their goal scoring opportunities. Think.i have read the have had less than 20 attempts on target in that time. Also a good chance they could line up in typical Pulls fashion with 4 centre halfs at the back (Iorfa Lees Borner Van Aken) so pace out wide could be an option to exploit. Is it too much to ask for us to get a very rare win at their place?
I like your optimism JT. Really I do. BUT, they could have lost their last 25 games, with 5% possession, 3 shots on target...... we all know what happens at Hillsboro.... I'm just saying, don't get your hopes up, only to be shattered....
I honestly think that unless we gift them a goal, Wednesday will struggle to break us down. Just a question of taking our chances.
We must be careful with what we expect! We went to swillsboro last season with the wind in our sales from a fantastic opening day win against Fulham.
To stand a chance of our first win against them since 2009, we have obviously got to field the players who have shown up as being the best in training, since our 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday night. Ben Williams ( Anterior cruciate ligament ) and Mike Bahre ( Abductor ) are our two long term absentees and are therefore not available. Jordan Williams is nearing full fitness, but our coach has confirmed, that he will not be considered for selection for tomorrow's head to head with Wednesday. I hope Mads in particular doesn't take any risks in and around our box and instead of playing " tippy tappy", he opts to play it out for a throw in deference to playing it across the box where it can be picked up by a Wednesday player or take a cruel ricochet into the back of our net. I also hope Jack Walton does not repeat his performances similar to Wednesday night, when he had hearts in mouth attempting and invariably failing to punch nearly every cross into our box. On another day, against tomorrow's opposition, we know only too well where the ball can end up.
I dont think Mads does play tippy tappy any more, but he really needs to cut out the ridiculous soft fouls that he gives away every game and switch on.
I'm more concerned with Andersen how easy players seem to get down the side of him. It happens a fair bit and teams will pick up on it I'm sure. He is only young and still improving though so I'm sure the gaffer as a defender himself will offer something to help him get better in those situations.
We must use Brittain at every opportunity. Iorfa is a natural CB but is very quick as he was a right back back in his wolves days. Van Aken is a big centre half who will have no chance of keeping up with Brittain
We never beat them, and got a feeling we won't today. Probably will give away a penalty at some point or have someone sent off. Way to win the game: score more goals than them.
They only had one shot on target in his first 3 games if I remember right. They're incredibly goal shy. If we keep it tight at the back, we won't lose. For me, this is the game where we definitely need to start Matty James, and I'd say Victor Adeboyejo too.
I know what you mean, but it's a habit we seem to have got out of. Well, most of the time... Still happens of course, but we're no worse than any other team. Not that long ago we were giving teams a couple of goals most games - or at least, it felt like it.
