Sad to have to break the news that former Barnsley manager John McSeveny passed away this afternoon thoughts are with his family at this sad timr
RIP John McSeveney and condolences to his family and friends. One of my abiding memories of John is shortly after he was sacked in 1972. The next game was away at Halifax Town. John didn't want to miss it, so he paid his own way in and stood with the fans. Good lad!
John gave up his time to be interviewed by talk he RITC "Our Club, Our Ground, Our Past, Our Future" project and attended the end meeting that formally concluded proceedings. I was very lucky to spend 20 mins in his company to talk about all things Barnsley and remember asking how he ended up at Oakwell. "I took the job as a personal favour for Jock Steele" was the response. We chatted on about his time in Irish football, his work with the Blades and the over riding impression I came away with was that I had met a true gentleman. Deepest condolences to his family on their loss, he may have been small in stature but he had a massive presence. RIP John
Very sad news, we interviewed John for the Heritage Project and it was a pleasure to meet John and his lovely family.
aaah, Thanks tosh. I wasn't aware. Johnny Steele happens to have been my wife's uncle (and hence mine until he passed) as he married her Aunty Margaret, but she only ever referred to him as "Uncle John"
