I don't recall ever seeing us lose at Bootham Crescent back in the day. There's been victories in the league, League Cup, FA Cup & pre season friendlies. I think the worst result I've witnessed there was a 0-0 draw.:D

Only ever visited Bootham Crescent once but don't remember seeing a lot.
It was back in November 1978 during the Div 4 promotion season when we won 1-0 in thick fog thanks to a goal from Derek Bell. It was good that the goal was at our end as we could barely even see to the half way line!

I vividly remember the 1-0 win in November 1978. Thick fog, Brian Joicey stretchered off after being kicked in his kidney, and Derek Bell scoring with a diving header. Good job he scored at our end because if it had been at the other we wouldn’t have seen it.

According to the stats, we've only ever lost once away at York in competitive games, and strangely enough that was the first time we ever played there, on 3rd December 1932 (2-3 defeat). We've only ever lost once at home as well, on 28th April 1967 (0-1 defeat in Div 4)

I've only been once, for the FA cup tie in 2003, where we came from behind to win 2-1

Was that at the start of the 76-77 season? My first away match without parental supervision!

Yup. It was in the League Cup, 1st Round 1st Leg. We then drew 0-0 at Oakwell in the 2nd Leg. The replay was played at Bootham Crescent and we won 2-1, with both our goals being scored by John Peachey, a former York City player. In the 2nd Round, we lost 3-0 at West Ham United.

Nice knowledge mate. League Cup 2nd legs AND replays.... when men were men and only 1 substitute allowed.

Question - when were substitutes first allowed in football, and who the the first Barnsley substitute?

One of our more memorable away games, for lots of reasons. Joicey's injury, Bell's diving header, the fog... and the bloody coach that refused to start after the match. Had to wait ages outside the ground for the replacement coach to turn up.

Can't believe I have no recollection of this. It's a game I wouldn't have missed so there must be a reason. Probably that disappointed at missing out I've erased it from memory :)

I'd forgot about Joicey's injury. It caused him to retire if I remember correctly?

I remember being there in December 1966 when we won 3-0 and just bossed the whole game. Bob Earnshaw scored twice in the first half, so he switched positions with Barrie Thomas for the second half to see if he could score his hat trick. He didn't, but he did end up being smashed by Barry Jackson, the brutal York City centre half (think Farmer Wilson and Skinner Normanton combined). Johnny Evans scored the third. Thinking about it now, I wonder if Thomas was hoping Earnshaw would go centre-forward, so Earnshaw would spend the second half getting kicked all over the pitch rather than Barrie! Hmm! Also recall a 4-3 win in the League Cup, when Pete Graham scored a couple and played a blinder. Evans and Robson got the other two. I don't think that Pete Graham really got much of a chance to develop at Oakwell and he left for Darlington and then Lincoln, at both of which teams he scored a hatful. Cosy little ground, Bootham Crescent. I can smell the woodbines again. Happy days.
