Maybe because he was knackered from covering every blade of grass on the park off the ball, doing the hard yards so those around him could play?

    Just a thought.

Im sure if you asked every single squad member (apart from those in same position) would they want MJ on the pitch 90 minutes every game I reckon you'd not get one dissenter.

I've missed the match today for the first time this season. But I'm sure the job he unselfishly does had contributed to the load of last 5minute goals we have scored since his rearrival. On a side note,I know it's not his 'job', but to chip in with a couple of goals (well shots on target to start with).

Did you watch the game yesterday?

The classiest player on the pitch, by a country mile. I just hope we can keep him longer than January

He is doing exactly what we need and what Val wants. There is a reason he carries so much respect in the club and why we have declared our top priority in Jan is to keep him here till end of season. He was in the Leicester first team squad when he was fully fit and injuries alongside the emergence of the kids at Leic have pushed him down the order so he has talent. We have been lucky in getting him. If we expected a 10 goal midfielder spraying passes to all corners then maybe we would be disappointed. What i expected we have got. A quality player, plays for the team. Links play up, breaks play up and more importantly while we have players like Mowatt and Styles who are all about being on the ball, James is the one off the ball who directs opponents play, breaks it up, reads the game and marshals our shape. The subs are generally tactical and we seem to have a game plan on him doing his bit for 65 mins before we can bring on our young ball playing midfielders when legs are tired. For me he fits what we need perfectly and we will have a lot of trouble filling that role if he goes with the current squad or in the transfer window. Its a team in fact squad sport and we have a good team and one thats better for him in it.

Hugely underrated in that team, he held it all together in midfield.

I beg to differ. I thought Bacuna for Huddersfield stood out more than our players but then again, I must’ve been watching a different game and not entitled to an opinion.

Frieser has an overall pass completion of 69% as does Thomas. What’s your point?

What do you mean by "not entitled to an opinion"? You've given your opinion, you started a new thread with it. It will remain published for as long as this website survives. Do you actually mean "I don't like it when people disagree with my opinion"?

You said he misplaced nearly every pass he attempted. Clearly that isn't true as the stats illustrate, which is a strong counter argument to your original point, don't you think?

You’re entitled to an opinion. Everyone is.

We’re entitled to tell you exactly why we think that opinion is wrong if you start a thread about whatever matter that is.

Doesn’t mean you have to change your mind about it. I think it would be easier to see what James brings to the team if we could go to the games rather than watch on tv - if you could watch him for a few minutes, look at the ground he covers, the holes he fills, maybe you’d see what we do in him. Maybe not.

Matty James performs an essential role in this team, if we lose him we will be much, much poorer for it. But at least the likes of Romal Palmer and Herbie Kane will have seen his game, and learnt from him in training etc. His leadership will be required too, if we lose Mowatt, which seems a possibility if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

I thought the team suffered after he went off, joins up the play well. If Alex wasn't captain, I think he would be substituted earlier or replaced by Styles,if we had a LWB. Just an opinion, I think James can last 80 minutes now, too.
