I’ve been up since 4.30 with baby Mabel and she fell asleep watching her first snowfall. It’s warmed my heart for the day.

No roads treated, can't get off my estate. Seen 7 aborted efforts. Neighbour in his 4x4 struggled, and videos posted on Facebook show all main roads around Wombwell full. Marvellous!

Not good. Snow is only fun if you don't have to get to work

Very true, I remember when I was about 18 riding a 125cc scooter from wakefield to Staincross in the snow following a night shift. Borrowed some wellies off someone and rode with both feet on the floor for balance! Took around 3 hours as I remember and involved a lot pushing up hills (and down)

My puppy is doing the same, first time she's seen proper snow, we had a dusting in December.

Whole village been without gas for 2 days. Something warming about seeing snow.

Hoylandswaine? Can be pretty bleak up there at the best of times. Stay warm!

I once did same thing from Penistone to Barnsley on a 50cc motorbike around 80/81 time. Feet on floor almost the whole way wearing steel toe capped work boots. Can’t remember how long it took but I thought my toes would never thaw out when I got home.

On the subject of utilities... After the 2016 Earthquakes in our region ENEL (the national electricity suppliers), suspended all payments and kept deferring them due to Covid etc... The bill becomes due (after over 4 years of deferred payments) at the end of January 2021. Even then the bill excludes all, service charges and 'add ons' and we only pay for the electric we have used - minus all taxes!. The bill is a fraction of what we normally would have normally paid over that period and the option is to pay over 36 months interest free. The water bills were actually cancelled for 4 years and have only just resumed. (It is no wonder Italy is skint)
I mention that because I wonder if you will get any compensation for loss of service or contribution towards your higher electric bill if you had to switch to that during the cold snap. We had two days without internet last year due to a major issue with the backbone and received a free week compo from our local ISP (without even asking) even though it was beyond their control.

ah ha! But I'm in Ireland and the snow here is obviously green, therefore we build snow aliens which are hermaphrodit es. Phew! Does the cover it? :)
