I can believe it too, burglary seems worse than ever at the moment. Where I live it seems every time I browse social media someone local has been a victim, and this seems to have been happing far too often.
Based on what evidence? I don’t believe Barnsley is any where near as dangerous as Sheffield or umpteen other places for that matter
I wouldn't take much notice of this, crime statistics are some of the most manipulated in the country. If you ask people if they feel safe, they say no but all the evidence and their life experiences will say they are. If the people of the UK want crime figures to go down, then reverse the last 10 years of cuts to the Police service, increase the numbers of Prison officers and Probation workers. Spend money on crime prevention schemes and restorative justice, education and training and rehabilitation, which are more effective and cost efficient than custody. I feel safe and always have, where I don't feel safe in the UK is in areas of deprivation and poverty and unemployment. The answer to the problems are known but there is a ideological opposition to carrying them out.
When I set sites up round here there is always a lot of theft. When we run security reports here and West Yorkshire do seem particularly bad.
Maybe it just means that our police force are good at investigating/getting people to report it? Also, West Yorkshire is a big place, as is Leeds, I certainly never feel unsafe here.
ive got a few snippets of crimes from a book from years ago, showing it always gone on,latest crime 1995, hope no one reads anything about anyone they know, but is quite interesting stuff so will post link https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...oECAoQAQ#v=onepage&q=colliery roadman&f=false
Its bad here in Hoyland Common, someone dropped a crisp packet last week, but we will get the culprit & he/she will be brought to justice !
That's a crime map which will include petty theft. A dangerous place to live suggests knife crime, gun crime, assault, rape and murders. In that respect Barnsley is as safe as anywhere. There are areas in London where you wouldn't dare walk out alone.
The city center of Leeds is lovely. The suburbs harehills, gipton, bell isle, halton Moor, Chapeltown, East end Park etc not so nice. I'm.not suprised west Yorkshire is 2nd
If anyone is interested in the goings on around the dearne area, delves back into old crimes etc How Dark Was Our Valley https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1800314205/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_giG7Fb3ZYXPDF
I grew up on the Ringway estate, we moved there from Thurnscoe in 1960 but I have no memory of the 1968 rape and murder.
i was on ingsfield lane and then crofton drive in the 70 and 80’s , I’ve not read the book but seen a few of the newspaper cuttings on Facebook.
It’s 100% to do with how they record crime too and it’s not the same across Forces, so take these reports with a pinch of salt
